Five on Five
The big match at this year's Survivor Series is the traditional elimination tag team match featuring Triple H, Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, Kane, and Rey Mysterio against Umaga, Mr Kennedy, Finlay, MVP, and Big Daddy V.
In order to promote that match, WWE set up a 6 man tag team match. Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, and Rey Mysterio faced Finlay, Mr Kennedy, and Finlay. It was a brilliant move by the writers to place three of the most popular stars in the entire company on the same team.
WWE wasn't done there.
They also booked Triple H and Umaga in a lumberjack match that featured the other 8 wrestlers at ringside. As expected, the match ended when a big brawl ensued.
That was a great way to get the fans hyped up for the traditional Survivor Series match. Well done.
WWE also relied on some familiar methods of promoting the pay per view. Batista and the Undertaker teamed up to promote their World Heavyweight Championship match. To promote the WWE Heavyweight Championship match, Randy Orton and Shawn Michaels engaged in a debate. Those aren't exactly the most creative way of doing things, but it did get the job done. |
