WWE Unforgiven 2007

Unforgiven has come and gone. The Undertaker had a successful return, and we have a new World Heavyweight Champion.

Going Through the Motions By now, everyone is well aware that the WWE has suspended several wrestlers for being involved in a federal drug probe. With the loss of so many wrestlers (including several top level wrestlers), the WWE would simply have to get by for a month. That felt like the unofficial theme of Unforgiven 2007. The World Heavyweight Championship match followed the triple threat match formula pretty well and was quite entertaining. The rest of the matches were basically matches you would see as main events for Monday Night Raw, ECW on Sci Fi, and Smackdown (with the World Tag Team Championship match actually feeling like something you'd see on a typical episode of Heat). Pleasant Surprise The WWE did manage to pull off a pleasant surprise by having Batista winning the World Heavyweight Championship. It was also a nice visual to see Batista actually lifting up the Great Khali for a spinebuster. Another pleasant surprise was seeing the Undertaker picking up Mark Henry from the ropes and sending him crashing to the mat with a powerbomb.

Closing Thoughts

The pay per view was solid but not spectacular. Plus, the fact that the show was unable to generate much of a reaction from the audience came through to the home audience as well.

Batista beat Mysterio & Great Khali

Surprising finish here as most people expected the Great Khali to retain the title. Fans are now just begging to see a Mysterio/Batista match at No Mercy next.

Candice Michelle beat Beth Phoenix

As expected, they had Beth Phoenix dominating the majority of the match with Candice Michelle sneaking away with the win. Wonder who challenges next.

Cena played the role really well here. He loses the match by DQ, but gets to keep his title. This match was basically a setup for a rematch at No Mercy.

As expected, Triple H gets the win over Carlito, who spent the match trying to use weapons. Carlito never really stood a chance in this match.

Cade & Murdoch beat London & Kendrick

Decent match but not enough tag team work. The lack of a real feud hurted the match because it just felt like a match you would normally see on Heat.

Good match that helped to elevate the feud between Matt Hardy and MVP. Deuce & Domino didn't get much out of this match, but they did decently.

CM Punk beat Elijah Burke

Very few people thought Burke was going to win the ECW title. The match was typically good. Sadly, Burke will probably be forgotten by the writers again.

The entrance was good, and so was the powerbomb to finish the match. Everything else was just a bit bland and not worthy of all the hype behind it.
