Great American Bash 2007
The Great American Bash was quite a disappointment this year. None of the world titles changed hands, and the one title that did change hands was done for comedic purposes.

WWE Heavyweight Championship
Bobby Lashley vs John Cena
There was a lot of speculations coming into the WWE Heavyweight Championship match that Bobby Lashley was going to walk away from the Great American Bash as the new champion.
The rumors were flying because John Cena was expected to take some time off to do another WWE Films movie and perhaps record a new music CD.
Looks like the writers want to have his reign last a full year. He's a couple of days away from hitting the year mark.
The match was decent. Nothing spectacular.
World Heavyweight Championship
Great Khali vs Batista vs Kane
A lot of fans' worst fears came true as the Great Khali retained the World Heavyweight Championship.
The match was pretty average, which is a good thing considering there's only so much you can do with the Great Khali.
ECW Heavyweight Championship
John Morrison vs CM Punk
Looks pretty obvious that the writers believe that there's more money to be made with CM Punk chasing the title than there is with him being the champion.
Decent match, but not as good as their matches against other opponents on the weekly ECW show leading up to the Great American Bash. |
WWE Women's Championship
Candice Michelle vs Melina Perez
Not too bad of a match. The writers continue to push Candice Michelle. The commentators are constantly praising her for her improvements. Some overrate her tremendously by comparing her to Trish Stratus, but if she keeps working, she might someday make it to that level.
Expect to see a new challenger for Candice Michelle on Monday night.
Carlito vs Sandman
Amazing that this match made it on to the Great American Bash pay per view, especially when King Booker and Ken Kennedy weren't book for matches. This match was only decent because of the added stipulation.
Cruiserweight Open
Chavo Guerrero vs Shannon Moore vs Jamie Noble vs Jimmy Wang Yang vs Funaki vs ???
The mystery opponent ended up being Hornswoggle instead of Rey Mysterio. Pretty disappointing. The WWE Cruiserweight Championship is now a comedic belt, which is a shame because of all the talented cruiserweight workers on the payroll.
United States Heavyweight Championship
MVP vs Matt Hardy
Very good match, but that was expected since Matt Hardy has been on a roll lately with superb matches on Smackdown. MVP is also quite capable of keeping up in matches, especially when paired with a solid veteran worker like Matt Hardy or Chris Benoit.
WWE Intercontinental Championship
Jeff Hardy vs Umaga
This was another match where a title change was rumored. The rumors were started because some believe that Umaga was in the dog house with the writers over some backstage issues.
There were also rumors that the Jackass crew was going to be involved in this match to start setting up their feud with Umaga for Summerslam.
Texas Bullrope Match
Randy Orton vs Dusty Rhodes
This match was as good as it could possibly be as Dusty Rhodes is getting up there in years. To his credit, though, he had a solid showing. As expected, the match was quick. Cody Runnels makes the save after the match to set up his feud with Randy Orton for Summerslam.
Conclusion
One of the worst pay per views of the year. So many disappointments in one night. Hopefully, the WWE can rebound by having an awesome Summerslam. |
