Backlash 2007

People will always remember Backlash 2007 as the pay per view where Vince McMahon wins the ECW Heavyweight Championship.

All Brands This show was an improvement because of the decision to put all three brands on a pay per view. All three main titles (World Heavyweight Championship, WWE Heavyweight Championship, and ECW Heavyweight Championship) were on the line. Even the WWE Women's Championship, World Tag Team Championship, and WWE United States Heavyweight Championship were on the line. Backlash followed their theme of continuing feuds from Wrestlemania pretty well. The three main events were basically a rematch of Wrestlemania with a few people (Vince McMahon, Shane McMahon, Edge, and Randy Orton) added to the match to provide a different flavor. Building Up MVP Another notable thing about this pay per view was that it was another step in building up MVP as a future champion. His feud with Chris Benoit had lasted for a few months. MVP was really starting to gain credibility with the fans (especially with the internet wrestling community) thanks to Chris Benoit carrying him to good matches.

Closing Thoughts

Every match on the show was solid, with some being quite good.

The changing of the ECW Heavyweight Championship gave the crowd a moment to remember. Even the non finish of the World Heavyweight Championship match was done well as both Batista and the Undertaker took the big bump to further their feud.

The pay per view surprised a lot of people and should end up being one of the best pay per views of 2007.

This was a World Heavyweight Championship rematch from Wrestlemania. The match cleverly ends in a draw with both men injured.

Benoit beat MVP

Lots of people were expecting to see MVP winning the United States Heavyweight Championship, but Chris Benoit pulled out the win.

The addition of Edge and Orton to the title rematch from Wrestlemania was a nice touch. Lots of build up for an eventual Rated RKO split.

Little did people know that the tag team championships were going to become irrelevant after the Hardys were split into singles star again.

Vince McMahon

The fact that Vince McMahon won the ECW Heavyweight Championship really overshadowed an otherwise good pay per view.

This match ended up being better than what most people expected. Kudos to Mickie James for carrying a less experienced Melina to a good match.

Rated RKO

They kept teasing an eventual breakup between Edge and Randy Orton, but things never worked out because injuries forced Edge over to Smackdown.

Three on one handicap match here with Vince McMahon getting the win (and the title) after a few flying splashes from Umaga to Bobby Lashley.
