Yesterday, there were reports that Tommy Dreamer was backstage at an NXT event. That led many to believe that he was simply visiting friends backstage. However, he did a lot more than that. The ECW legend was brought out by Joey Styles to work a match against Baron Corbin. The reason why WWE opted to do that was because the event was being held in Philadelphia. They felt that it would be a nice treat for their fans there.

It is pretty easy to determine that Tommy Dreamer paid a lot of attention during his years as a professional wrestler because he has now become one of the top promoters in the game. Fans constantly rave about his House of Hardcore shows, which are usually packed with top stars. Dreamer is doing well enough to where he is thinking about taking his show to Canada. He has been looking at venues in Ontario for the next event.

Fans who attended the House of Hardcore event over the weekend were already being treated to a great show because Tommy Dreamer once again managed to stack the card with well known stars. However, the hardcore legend wanted to give his paying customers a little bit more. Rey Mysterio made his surprising debut with the promotion. It was also his return to the ECW arena. Mysterio saved Dreamer from Ethan Carter and Eric Young.

It appears that Tommy Dreamer was originally a big part of the plan for the upcoming Royal Rumble. While that does sound hard to believe, the idea that WWE had was to expand the main event match to include 40 performers instead of the usual 30. The additional contestants would have been made up of former ECW stars, as the pay per view is being held in Philadelphia. The fans in the area still have an affinity for the hardcore wrestlers that entertained them over a decade ago.
