TNA Slammiversary Results
TNA Slammiversary started out as a decent, above average pay per view. That is, until the final two match skyrocketed the overall quality of the pay per view to greatness.
Fans were a bit confused as to why Senshi replaced Chris Harris in the opening tag team match with Rhino against LAX. They later learned that Harris was moved up into the main event scene and TNA World Heavyweight Championship King of the Mountain match.
Jay Lethal wins the TNA X Division Championship from Chris Sabin as expected. Bob Backlund and Frank Wycheck both had surprisingly good performances in their respective matches. Road Warrior Animal was another guy that had a surprisingly good performance as the mystery tag team partner for Rick Steiner.
Christopher Daniels and Sting finally have their match, while Robert Roode and Eric Young finally end their feud with Young winning his freedom with a victory. Tomko and Abyss had a brutal hardcore match that came very close to stealing the show.
Prior to the main event, TNA aired a very emotional piece with Jeff Jarrett talking about the growth of TNA and the loss of his wife to cancer. TNA Director of Authority Jim Cornette afterwards announced that Chris Harris was the 5th participant in the King of the Mountain match.
The main event was a classic.
Lots of brilliant spots, good timing, and the ending was spectacular. AJ Styles showed the world again that he's one of the best in the business. Samoa Joe showed how innovative he can be. Harris actually showed that he deserved to be in the big match. Christian threw in a typically good performance.
The combatants made good use of the ladder as well. Samoa Joe did a flying Diamond Cutter off the ladder, while Chris Harris delivered a flying spear to Christian Cage to enable Kurt Angle to put the belt up and become the first ever TNA World Heavyweight Champion. |
