Rob Van Dam contract status

During a recent interview, Rob Van Dam revealed some rather interesting details about his business relationship with WWE. While he is not officially under contract as a performer, the former world heavyweight champion is not legally allowed to work for TNA or ROH because he has a merchandise deal. RVD states that he intends to make another return some day, but he is in no rush to do so at the moment.

During a recent interview with Busted Open, Daniel Bryan made some rather interesting remarks. First, he revealed that a neurologist has cleared him to wrestle again. However, he stated that WWE would not allow him to return just yet. Bryan stated that he is an independent contractor, so they cannot really stop him from getting back into the ring because this is his passion in life.

He stated that there was some sort of clause in there that prevented the company from ever being able to release him. Magnus did not go into further details, but he stated that he left the company on very good terms, so a potential return down the line has not been ruled out by either side.

TNA wasn't the only wrestling promotion finalizing a new television deal in Italy this week. Vince McMahon did so as well. He has secured a contract that will enable WWE to keep broadcasting their programming in that country until the year 2020. The promotion has been with Sky Italia since 2003. The network stated that the business partnership between the two sides have been mutually beneficial and should continue on for years.

When asked about CM Punk, Bobby Lashley had some interesting things to say. First and foremost, Lashley is quite supportive of Punk in his quest to fight in UFC. However, Lashley stated that he wished Punk had done a match outside of the promotion first. The belief is that Punk opted to sign immediately with Dana White because an outside loss would reduce his value to the promotion tremendously. A contract might not have been offered.

One of the more interesting revelations that was made during the podcast interview that Kurt Angle did with Ric Flair was the fact the latter was the one that convinced the former to avoid signing a contract with WCW. Flair had several issues with the front office, so he advised Angle to sign with WWE instead. He even stated that he handed him the phone number to Vince McMahon, so that he can initiate the negotiations personally.

For starters, he was not really needed any more because the company no longer does a Spanish feed of Impact Wrestling. His broadcasting partner was no longer with the company, so Guerrero was simply floating around. Since his contract was set to expire soon, he opted to leave early, so that he can focus on his new career as a school teacher in Florida.

Since the company now has him under contract, the smart move would be to utilize Sting as much as possible to get a return on the investment that WWE spent on him. That is a big reason why a DVD is being discussed at the moment. The WCW legend is expected to be heavily involved with the project, and he is reportedly interested in having a lot of say in how it is presented. Management already has a good amount of footage since they own the library.
