While he has not been given a feud to work with since making his return to WWE, Rey Mysterio is very much still a part of the plans for Wrestlemania 30. He was penciled in for a big match against Sin Cara, but management is now looking for a new opponent for him at the pay per view.
Aside from half hearted programs with Sin Cara and Rey Mysterio, Alberto Del Rio really has not been given a full program by WWE to work with since wrestling John Cena at Survivor Series 2013. However, the feeling backstage is that Del Rio is assured a spot at Wrestlemania 30 to draw in the Spanish media.
Sin Cara has been contacting WWE about a contract extension, and it appears that the company has not been responding to him whatsoever. Officials are not interested in moving forward with the performer, and they plan to eventually phase the character out completely.
While management has given up on the character, WWE will be keeping Sin Cara around because he is featured in the upcoming Scooby Doo movie. Oficials have no plan on bringing the original performer back, so Hunico will have the role until after the movie has been released.
While the initial plans had him working a match against Sin Cara, WWE may have changed their mind on how to use Rey Mysterio at Wrestlemania 30. There are those within the company that are now leaning towards him working a match against Alberto Del Rio with his mask on the line.
While the masked superstar is still interested in a return, WWE has expressed very little interest in bringing Sin Cara back now that his contract has expired. The belief is that the company can save a good amount of money by using Hunico instead.
One of the reasons why WWE wants to do a match at Wrestlemania 30 between Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara is that they hope it would generate some interest from the media in Mexico. Management also wants to elevate the Sin Cara character.
The contract that Sin Cara signed with WWE is set to expire at the end of December, and management is leaning towards letting the performer leave while retaining the rights to utilize the character with Hunico.
While the company still plans on using the character, there are talks that Sin Cara, formerly known as Mistico in Mexico, might have already been released by WWE.
Many have noticed Alberto Del Rio has been demoted by WWE, as he went from a World Heavyweight Championship program with John Cena to losing a Monday Night Raw match against Sin Cara.
Wrestling fans saw the return of Sin Cara on Monday Night Raw this week, but it was actually Hunico under the mask, as WWE is currently having issues with the normal performer.
While plans can and will obviously change in WWE, Rey Mysterio is penciled in for a feud with Sin Cara, which would culminate into a big match at Wrestlemania 30 between the two masked stars.
