Five years ago, John Morrison defeated Sheamus in a ladder match at TLC to earn himself a shot at the world heavyweight championship. He received that title shot on episode of Monday Night Raw that took place on January 3, 2011. Morrison lost to his former tag team partner, The Miz, in a Falls Count Anywhere match. Today, Morrison wrestles for Lucha Underground and does movies.

One of the reasons why WWE put the world heavyweight championship on Sheamus is because they want the fans to root for whoever he is up against. The Celtic Warrior does a pretty decent job of generating heel heat. Plus, a lot of fans aren't keen to the idea of him being in the top spot. Management has noticed that the reaction to Roman Reigns has been a bit warmer because of it.

Going into the Elimination Chamber, Sheamus was initially penciled in as the person that was scheduled to walk out of the enormous steel cage structure with the Intercontinental Championship in his hand. However, as a sign that WWE still continues to change up plans on a frequent basis, management opted to put the belt on Ryback for whatever reasons. A lot of people backstage have been impressed with the Big Guy as of late.

During a recent interview, Sheamus revealed that he held some resentment towards Shelton Benjamin because the latter kept calling the former a rookie when the two of them worked together back in 2009. Being the good person that he is, Benjamin took to social media to offer his sincerest apology. However, he also revealed that he does not recall using that term, which some in the industry find to be offense, whatsoever.

During a recent interview, Sheamus revealed some information on his tryout match with WWE. He admitted that they were awful. For whatever reasons, management opted to choose Dolph Ziggler as his opponent, even though Ziggler was a developmental wrestler himself. The Celtic Warrior stated that Finlay was the one that made the odd choice. He also stated that he was hoping to receive more advice than he was being given at the time.

Since he is viewed as a major marketing chip in Europe, Finn Balor is currently overseas with the top WWE stars as they tour the continent. He and Sheamus are both from Ireland, so the hope is that they can draw in a packed house. Another reason why Balor is on the tour is because management is seriously considering a promotion to main roster in the near future. This would enable the front office to get a much closer look at him.

As many of you already saw on Monday Night Raw, Sheamus made his return to WWE this week. The front office gave him a little momentum boost by doing a heel turn. That is not the only change that we will see with the character. During the Smackdown taping, the former world heavyweight champion was given a new entrance theme song and a new entrance routine. For them to go through this much trouble, a push is obviously expected.

WWE has had a change of heart with Sheamus and his impending return from an injury. Initially, the plan was to have him making his comeback on the next episode of Smackdown. For whatever reasons, management has decided to postpone things. The belief is that there are people in the company who are pushing for the former world heavyweight champion to make his return at the Royal Rumble as a surprise entrant instead.

For those that might not have noticed, Sheamus has not worked a televised match for WWE since November. The reason for that is because he was sent back to Europe for the holidays, so that he could heel an assortment of injuries and ailments. Management wanted him to be fresh because they intend on giving him a substantial push upon his return this month. They feel that now is the right time to put him back into the main event scene.
