Reports have surfaced that the former world heavyweight champion has been actively booking dates for himself in July and August. It is being said that he is actually contacting promoters and accepting their offers after having initially declined the deals to pursue a WWE contract.

That might no longer be the case, as the former world heavyweight champion has signed on for an event with Northeast Wrestling in August. He would not have done that if he was on the verge of signing a contract with WWE because the promotion does not usually allow their performers to work for another company.

While making a special guest appearance during the Jim Ross one man show, Samoa Joe revealed his plans for the future. He stated that his main goal is to work a match against Brock Lesnar at the next Wrestlemania for the heavyweight championship. He stated that he doesn't care if he has to go through the developmental program in NXT to achieve that goal. Joe is hoping that WWE opts to put him on the main roster immediately, though.

Samoa Joe made a special appearances on the show. The former world heavyweight champion worked a match for ROH, where he challenged Jay Briscoe for their version of the heavyweight championship. The former United States Heavyweight Champion has been quite pleased with how the company has been utilizing him since he started with them. He addressed the audience, which gave him a rather warm reception, and informed them that he will be gunning for the heavyweight championship. Since he is only signed for four shows and Ring of Honor is unlikely to be able to afford to give him a long term contract, Joe is unlikely to be given the championship.

Reports have surfaced that the majority of people backstage are upset that the former world heavyweight champion is leaving the promotion. Joe was very well liked backstage by his peers, and some even viewed him as a locker room leader. His departure has affected morale a bit.
