Finn Balor injures leg

On Friday night, Finn Balor worked the main event of an NXT show in Nashville, Tennessee. The heavyweight champion was given a victory over Samoa Joe. Unfortunately, though, the former leader of the Bullet Club injured his leg during the match. Balor was spotted hobbling backstage and had to use crutch in order to leave the arena. Finn and the rest of the developmental brand are expected to work a show in Indianapolis tonight.

Ryback vs Finn Balor

When asked about which performers in NXT that he would love to wrestle on the main roster in WWE, Ryback mentioned Sami Zayn and Samoa Joe but really focused on Finn Balor. The former Intercontinental Champion showered Balor, who currently carries the heavyweight championship in the developmental brand, with quite a bit of praise, noting that Finn brings his best night in and night out.

NXT midwest tour

Hoping to become a more active touring company in 2016 so that NXT can finally become profitable, Triple H has booked his developmental crew for a tour of the midwest. In January, the promotion will be making their debuts in Milwaukee, Chicago, Detroit and Green Bay. They will also be doing another stop in Pittsburgh. Names being advertised are Apollo Crews, Samoa Joe, Finn Balor and Bayley.

Apollo Crews challenging for title

Those rumors about WWE giving Apollo Crews a major push turned out to be true after all. The developmental wrestler has now been named the number one contender to the NXT Championship currently held by Finn Balor. Crews leapfrogged over several other performers, including Tyler Breeze and Samoa Joe, to get that highly coveted spot. The belief is that there is a very good chance of him winning the championship soon.

Performers like Samoa Joe, Finn Balor and Bayley are going to be among the biggest reasons why fans attend Takeover events and the upcoming NXT tour of England. Rumors have been floating around that the developmental performers do not get rewarded for the recent success, and now, it appears that an official meeting was held to inform the performers that they will not be paid any extra money for their work.

Samoa Joe challenging Balor

Rumors have it that one of the ideas being floated around backstage in WWE is for Samoa Joe and Finn Balor to successfully win the Dusty Rhodes memorial tournament. That would then lead to Joe somehow challenging Balor for the NXT Championship in a friendly feud. That particular match would more than likely be the biggest draw for the developmental promotion at this point in time.

Samoa Joe main roster

When it was revealed earlier that Samoa Joe had impressed WWE so much that they offered him a full time contract, the internet wrestling community began to wonder if that meant that he was going to be placed on the main roster immediately. Fans are going to have to wait a couple of months, as management needs the former world heavyweight champion to be the focal point of NXT, as star power on the developmental roster has dwindled a bit.

For years, WWE decided to neglect Samoa Joe every time that he was a free agent. Apparently, that was a mistake. Now that the former world heavyweight champion has been signed to a developmental deal, he was able to impress management is a short period of time. The front office was so impressed with his work, the buzz he created and his merchandise sales that they decided to upgrade him to a full time deal instead.

Developmental wrestlers in WWE generally do not get paid a lot of money, and that was one of the things that caused Samoa Joe to be hesitant about signing a contract with the company. In order to get the deal done, management opted to give him a contract that might help them secure more of the top performers on the independent scene. Joe is being allowed to work for other promotions, provided that he does not appear on television.

Reports have surfaced that Samoa Joe has signed a developmental contract with WWE. Terms of the deal are said to be for two years. The sum has not been disclosed, but the belief is that someone with the stature of Joe would be able to comment a bit more money that what the NXT performers normally get paid. The company has yet to confirm the signing, but they do not usually make an announcement on developmental signings.
