Developmental wrestlers in WWE generally do not get paid a lot of money, and that was one of the things that caused Samoa Joe to be hesitant about signing a contract with the company. In order to get the deal done, management opted to give him a contract that might help them secure more of the top performers on the independent scene. Joe is being allowed to work for other promotions, provided that he does not appear on television.

Reports have surfaced that Samoa Joe has signed a developmental contract with WWE. Terms of the deal are said to be for two years. The sum has not been disclosed, but the belief is that someone with the stature of Joe would be able to comment a bit more money that what the NXT performers normally get paid. The company has yet to confirm the signing, but they do not usually make an announcement on developmental signings.

Rumors spread on Thursday that Samoa Joe met with WWE officials to negotiate a developmental contract. It is now looking more and more likely that it did happen, as Jim Ross himself has confirmed that he saw Joe earlier in the day. Ross is in Orlando, where the performance center happens to be, to tape a show with Mick Foley for the Network. The belief is that Joe will sign a deal and start with NXT around June of 2015.

While making a special guest appearance during the Jim Ross one man show, Samoa Joe revealed his plans for the future. He stated that his main goal is to work a match against Brock Lesnar at the next Wrestlemania for the heavyweight championship. He stated that he doesn't care if he has to go through the developmental program in NXT to achieve that goal. Joe is hoping that WWE opts to put him on the main roster immediately, though.

To capitalize on the Wrestlemania hype, Jim Ross did a one man show in northern California this week. He brought along a special guest, and the audience was pretty excited to see him. Samoa Joe made a special appearances on the show. The two of them had a discussion onstage, and there was a strong indication that the former world heavyweight champion would be joining the WWE developmental program in the very near future.

Earlier in the week, Samoa Joe was spotted hanging out with other wrestlers at Walemania. It's not all fun and games, however. The former world heavyweight champion worked a match for ROH, where he challenged Jay Briscoe for their version of the heavyweight championship. Briscoe successfully retained, but that does not come as a surprise to those who believe that Joe will be signing up with the WWE developmental program soon.

Since word going around is that Samoa Joe is willing to go through the NXT program in order to get to the WWE main roster, some attention has been turned back to AJ Styles. Many want to know if he would be willing to do the same thing, especially since his friend is doing so. As of right now, that appears to be very unlikely, as the amount of money he would have to sacrifice by leaving New Japan for the developmental program would be quite steep.

The belief is that the deal will not take place before April, as Joe has already committed to working matches for ROH in the month of March. However, there are now reports that he might not leave the United States at all. Sources are saying that WWE has contacted the former world heavyweight champion and has put an offer on the table for him to join their developmental program. No word yet on whether or not Joe is interested in doing NXT.
