Sami Zayn out of action

It looks like Samoa Joe is coming into NXT at just the right time. Already, the promotion has lost Hideo Itami for several months because of a shoulder injury. Many were waiting to hear how long Sami Zayn was going to be on the sidelines as well. Reports have now surfaced that the former heavyweight champion will undergo surgery. The amount of time has yet to be revealed, but he will be off of television for at least the next month.

Sami Zayn debuts on Raw

For those of you that watched the latest episode of Monday Night Raw, Sami Zayn made his official debut by being the mystery challenger for the United States Heavyweight Championship held by John Cena. While it was a great performance and moment, it has left the internet wrestling community with a lot of questions, the most important of which pertains to his status on the main roster. He might not be making the jump yet.

NXT Takeover main event

The folks in NXT are doing another Takeover show, and the main event has been revealed. Sami Zayn will make his much anticipated return to the ring and challenge Kevin Owens for the heavyweight championship. For those that do not now, Zayn was written off of television for several weeks to heal up some of his injuries. The event will take place at the Full Sail University on May 20, 2015. More details about the card will be revealed next week.

A story that managed to stay under the radar is the one where Sami Zayn is injured. Many were under the impression that he was kept on the sidelines to sell his story with Kevin Owens. When Zayn did not wrestle at a live event and only cut a promo, the speculation began to arise. After some investigation, reports have now surfaced that the former NXT Heavyweight Champion is definitely sidelined with an undisclosed injury.

Hideo Itami push

While he is not being pushed as quickly as Finn Balor is, fans of Hideo Itami should not worry too much at the moment. WWE still has plans on pushing him in NXT. He will eventually get to challenge for the heavyweight championship, and it could happen as soon as this summer. Management wants to let the feud between Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn run its course before moving Itami into a top spot to see if he can run with the ball.

In order to sell the brutal beating from Kevin Owens and to hide the fact that he was overseas with the main roster, WWE kept Sami Zayn off of television. That ends next week, as the former heavyweight champion is scheduled to make his television return to NXT. As of right now, he is penciled in to cut a very powerful promo about losing the belt to his former best friend. The character will also come up with a way to get a rematch for the title.

In a sign of just how valuable he has become to WWE, Sami Zayn has been chosen to be the first NXT action figure that Mattel produces. The former heavyweight champion is not a household name yet with the mainstream fans, but he has grown to become quite the marketing asset to the company. Management usually sends Zayn overseas to do promotional work, and he is often brought along to work various live events in other countries.

Since a lot of fans are already aware that Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn are going to be engaged in a long term feud over the NXT Heavyweight Championship, the creative department has been tasked with figuring out a way to make Finn Balor seem like he has a chance at winning the belt. Expect his push to be strong because he is going to end up not winning the championship away when the two of them finally go face to face.

At the latest Takeover event, NXT fans saw Finn Balor defeating Adrian Neville, which means that he is now the top contender to the heavyweight championship. He is now scheduled to work a program with Kevin Owens, who defeated Sami Zayn in the main event tonight. Balor is on the receiving end of a push from WWE officials, but Owens is expected to remain the champion and feud with Zayn for the next several months.
