While doing a podcast interview with Ric Flair, Sting revealed that he used to have backstage heat with Lex Luger when the two of them first met. The reason for that was because they felt that the NWA was pitting them against one another. Luger and Sting were around the same age, and they were both gunning for the top spot in the promotion. They eventually bonded over bodybuilding.

That turned out to be on purpose because the family asked their friends to keep things out of the public. Prior to Bockwinkel dying, Flair had casually mentioned that he was having some issues with his health.

A while ago, the company had some backstage heat with Ric Flair for having a deal with the North Carolina Lottery. At the time, they felt that gambling was not a very family friendly thing.

He stated that the arrogant personality that Luger portrayed on camera was pretty close to what he was really like in real life. Bischoff hated working with him. He also resented Luger because of what happened with Miss Elizabeth, whom his wife was very close to.

When the unpopular firing of Jim Ross took place, many felt that he was being punished by WWE because Ric Flair was drunk at a public event. That has led people to speculate about backstage heat between the two. Apparently, that is far from the case, as Ross and Flair get along just fine. The two of them still share a mutual sense of admiration and respect towards one another. Ross does not blame Flair for no longer being with the company.
