Initially, the plan for Rey Mysterio was to sign a very lucrative deal with Lucha Underground, which was reportedly to include an ownership stake. However, with the promotion likely to fold before the second season gets approved, plans are changing for the masked performer. There are now talks that he is considering a return to WWE. Some are even saying that discussions have already begun.

As a sign of how miserable Rey Mysterio was when WWE was holding him hostage contractually, the masked performer has been repeatedly telling the media that he absolutely loves being able to dictate his own schedule and control his own career. Since it isn't a casual mention, the belief is that the former world heavyweight champion is trying to send a message.

For years, WWE fans ridiculed Rey Mysterio for having weak knees and needing quite a bit of time away from the ring. The masked performer recently mentioned that his knees are doing much better nowadays thanks to stem cell treatment. Mysterio also noted that it was his good friend, Charlie Haas, that introduced him to the doctor that does the procedure.

During a recent interview, Rey Mysterio was asked how he felt about constantly being booked to lose matches when he was the world heavyweight champion in WWE. He stated that it definitely bothered him, but he did not let it prevent him from going out there and putting on a performance for his fans. He stated that he wished things had turned out a bit differently during his reign, but he was satisfied overall.

Shortly after Perro Aguayo died in a tragic in ring accident, a lot of eyes turned to WWE to see if the company would do a tribute for the fallen performer on Monday Night Raw. In the end, the company opted against it. One of the reasons for that is because they wanted to avoid bringing light to the fact that Rey Mysterio, who was involved in that unfortunate match, is no longer with the company. They did his release as quietly as possible.

However, there are now talks that he is on the verge of retirement after the tragic accident that cost the life of Perro Aguayo in the ring. Mysterio is said to be filled with huge amount of grief and guilt even though he knows that it was not on purpose. The thought of being back in the ring might be too much for him at this point in time.

There are those within WWE that feel that management made a big mistake by being too greedy with Rey Mysterio. Some feel that he should have been utilized as a special attraction in the same manner in which the company is doing with Sting, Undertaker and Brock Lesnar. He is using his massive drawing power in Mexico to command a very easy schedule, where he will only wrestle a handful of times per year.
