Smackdown Results - February 29, 2008

Batista gets chosen as Smackdown's representative. Undertaker takes on one of Edge's boys. The tag team champions lose in an upset.

MVP's Momentum For a while there, MVP was one of the most fascinating things about Smackdown. His storyline with Matt Hardy was the talk of wrestling. Now, though, he's just lost in the shuffle. MVP used to be a star on the rise and a potential main event wrestler, but now he's just another mid card wrestler. We understand that the writers can't continue his storyline until Matt Hardy actually returns, but it wouldn't kill them to give him another feud to work with until them. They had a smart thing going there when he briefly feuded with Ric Flair. That storyline worked out well for both of them, and it served a purpose. Now, MVP has just been floating around. Even though he was the WWE United States Heavyweight Champion, MVP was losing cleanly and consistently to Batista. Now, he's thrown into a random tag team match with the Great Khali. Something needs to be done with him soon.

Closing Thoughts

Smackdown felt like it was just going through the motions this week. There wasn't anything in particular about it that made it stand out from the other shows.

Undertaker beat Zack Ryder

Predictable match with the Undertaker dominating Zack Ryder. He also sends a message to Edge by bloodying one of his minions.

Edge & the Edgeheads

The writers really need to give this stable a bit more of an edge (pun intended). It wouldn't hurt for them to give the Undertaker a backstage beatdown.

Pretty random Balls Mahoney sighting. The match was basically a squash match. This match was done to set up an attack from the Undertaker.

The moment they mentioned that this was a non-title match, everyone should have known that Jesse & Festus was going to win. And they did.

Batista & Kane beat MVP & Great Khali

This match was thrown together to give Batista a win so that they can make him stronger as he was selected as the Smackdown representative.

Guess the heel turn worked out well for Chuck Palumbo. He was able to beat Jamie Noble. WWE needs to make it clear that Jamie Noble is a face now.

Yang & Moore beat Deuce & Domino

Guess these two teams are feuding with one another now. Sure wished they would give these guys a storyline or a reason to fight. Good match.

Big Show's return match was pretty lackluster. He predictably defeated two random jobbers. It takes a while to get used to seeing Big Show being thinner.
