WWE Royal Rumble 2008

The Royal Rumble this year was highlighted by the shocking return of John Cena. Not only did he return, but he also dominated.

The Good The Royal Rumble match itself was great as usual. Pat Patterson (and whoever else helps him book the match) really deserves a lot of credit for coming up with creative segments every single year. It was great seeing the Undertaker and Shawn Michaels opening up the match after being the last two guys in last year's match. The final segment with John Cena, Triple H, and Batista was also well booked. Very climatic ending. The Bad None of the undercard matches really came even close to living up to the hype. The Ugly It was good for nostalgia to see Rowdy Roddy Piper and Superfly Jimmy Snuka at the show. However, WWE could have done that with just an appearance instead of them taking two spots from young wrestlers. Both guys have severely aged. Plus, it was a bit of an insult that these two guys lasted longer in the match that Shelton Benjamin did.

Closing Thoughts

The undercard was lackluster. However, the entire pay per view was saved by the surprising return of John Cena.

Former Evolution teammates Triple H and Batista tangle it up in the final minutes of the Royal Rumble. Triple H eliminates his former pupil.

Former foes John Cena and Carlito battle it out. Carlito was one of John Cena's many victims as he eliminated several opponents in a row.

Ric Flair beat MVP

The buildup for the feud was tremendous, but the match itself wasn't all that great. Ric Flair gets the clean win with the figure four leglock.

JBL busts open Chris Jericho, which prompted him to go psycho. Chris Jericho sacrifices the match by nailing JBL with a steel chair for the DQ.

Royal Rumble

Shawn Michaels eliminated the Undertaker, which gave us a glimpse of what could possibly be another feud between the two WWE legends.

Good match between the two, but it was very predictable that Edge was going to retain the title after receiving some help from one his many friends.

Randy Orton beat Jeff Hardy

Jeff Hardy worked pretty hard in this match, but it still wasn't enough. Kind of odd that they would have Randy Orton winning the match so cleanly.

Royal Rumble

Umaga and the Undertaker square off in the Royal Rumble. This is another glimpse at a potential feud that could happen after Wrestlemania.
