Jim Ross Blog
Jim Ross posted a new blog at JRsBarBQ.com and here are some highlights:
- Yours truly spent Tuesday night in the home of Steve Austin in Southern California and had a great time catching up with one of my best, old friends. If you follow either Steve, steveaustinBSR, or me, JRsBBQ, on Twitter you already knew that info. We had a great dinner, likely drank a little too much and stayed up later than either of us should have but we both enjoyed the much overdue visit. We destroyed ample amounts of grilled salmon. Steve is working OT in promoting his film "Damage" which is out on DVD on March 23. I know that I plan on supporting Steve's efforts and hope that you do as well.
- Steve continues to train about 5 days a week and is in great shape. Before anyone goes nuts and starts emailing me, "NO" I don't see Stone Cold ever wrestling again as he is devoting the majority of his waking hours to building his film career and is well on his way to amassing an impressive body of work. "Damage" is a damn good, action adventure, kick your ass film.
- Nice to see WWE focus on eliminating chair shots to the heat of their athletes. I blogged about this several weeks ago which I am sure means nothing in regard to this decision being made. Some asked if I thought this mandate was "politically motivated" to which I emphatically say hell, no. It simply makes common sense and the overall health of the competitors has to be any companies utmost priority.
- One emailer told me that TNA was going to "beat" WWE because TNA had "stronger tag teams." What?! TNA will never "beat" WWE but that doesn't mean that TNA can't be a viable brand that is profitable if they provide an alternative product to what WWE produces. Now watch the emails flow about how I am biased, which is true, and that I hope that TNA fails, which is very wrong.
- It seems that many within the wrestling media know more about my Wrestlemania assignment that do I. I still don't know what I'm specifically and officially doing in Phoenix but as I mentioned I am just happy to be attending the event. So for those of you that may read what my role is going to be in conjunction with WM26, and insiders might be correct at the end of the day, just for the record and as of today I don't know. However, if you get any more inside info please share it. I need to know what to pack.
- I've also I read where I signed a new contract with WWE, I hope to BTW, however that is also wrong as what I signed was a contract extensition to take us through the end of April. Re-signing with WWE is my top priority and I hope that we can get another, long term deal done sooner than later.

Vince McMahon Didn’t Know that Steve Austin Would Drink Beer on Raw
Stone Cold Steve Austin was on Loveline (Dr. Drew Pinsky's nationally syndicated radio program) last night, promoting the release of Damage. He was on for the full 2 hours but he only discussed wrestling briefly.
When a caller asked him about his experience hosting RAW this week he said that it was a little weird trying to do his character in a PG world and that Vince was unaware that Austin would be drinking beer in the ring (though Stone Cold didn't know that until after he did it).
Stone Cold participated in answering a number of odd "love" related questions but he did not discuss his personal life in any detail. I'm fairly certain that the show was broadcast live last night west of Colorado, but radio stations east of Colorado that air Loveline will broadcast Stone Cold's appearance tonight (generally that is how Loveline works).
All in all, Stone Cold was pretty entertaining, but it was quite obvious during the discussion that his wrestling days are over and he is focused now on acting (not that anyone reading the site should be surprised by that). When asked if he will be ever returning to the ring, he basically said never say never, but he feel that it is extremely unlikely.
Shawn Michaels to Actually Retire After Wrestlemania?
Shawn Michaels has been telling friends as of late he plans on retiring at WrestleMania. His contract is set to expire soon and he has talked about wanting to spend more time with his children as they grow up.
Michaels himself has made noise about retiring in recent years, to the point that WWE actually scripted jokes about it on Raw. After taking time off in 2008, he made noise about deciding not to come back. Like previous times he'd taken time off, WWE would call him back to return and he would. He also said in a radio interview last year that he had told the company his retirement date (which at the time was this year's WrestleMania). On the other hand, he's brought up the idea of wrestling well into his fifties, though only a match or two per year.
Michaels is not advertised for any shows past the night after WrestleMania when Raw emanates from the US Airways Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
WWE Ignores Randy Savage
There was some disappointment from the Poffo family as Randy Savage contacted both WWE and TNA about sending some kind of message to be read at his father Angelo Poffo’s funeral. TNA worked with him while WWE ignored the message.
WWE Wrestlers Warned About Wrestlemania Weekend
- Right now the WWE talents from both RAW and Smackdown are being told to be prepared to work both RAW and Smackdown after Wrestlemania in Phoenix and Las Vegas.
- According to Dave Meltzer, the WWE talents have been told to keep busy with WWE affairs during Wrestlemania weekend and not to attend any Ring of Honor or Dragon Gate shows. They have also been told to expect TMZ cameras and not to do anything that would get them in trouble or on TMZ.
Smackdown Wrestlers Appearing on Raw
For what it's worth, the plan right now is for the Smackdown brand stars to make regular appearances on RAW from now until the Draft in April.
WWE Drug Tests
WWE drug tested talents this past week, including people on the Wrestlemania 26 card.
Mickie James’ Status
WWE Diva Mickie James has posted the following on her official WWE Universe account:
"I have come to the decision to push back the release of my album "Strangers & Angels" to mid May... After Wrestlemania, after the draft, after the tours... My main focus now, as it should be, is to get myself 150% for Wrestlemania first and foremost..."
"Then, this is the second time in 2 months that I have ever been sent home from the road, both for the same reason. A Staph Infection, but not just any, as I found out in the hospital it’s MRSA. The first was from the most recent Mexico Tour where I was sent to Tampa to be treated. Then it came back worse than before this last time during the live event Loop in Texas where I was sent home. Then immediately admitted to the hospital in Richmond. To all the WWE universe who came to any of the shows or have watched in the last few weeks to see me. I am truly sorry and please know that I wanted to be there more than anything. Both times I tried to fight it, I fought with the doctors. I fought with my boss.. to just let me work through it, “its just an infection.. No big deal... I’ve worked through worse with a smile on my face” but thankfully for me, they wouldn’t hear of it! I cant express how truly grateful I am that they didn’t listen to me."
"I didn’t realize the severity of the infection and how bad it was. When i was admitted into the hospital I went straight into surgery to get the infection out of my body. They also told me I wouldn’t make it to Wrestlemania. I told them they were wrong.. Watch me! When I woke up i was devastated... My leg was in an immobilizer, my knee was sliced open with tubes coming from it t help drain it. As the days passed in the hospital I found out more and more about the infection, about how bad mine truly was. The nurses also explained to me what could have happened if it had gone a little longer untreated. The infection had already gotten into my bloodstream and I was extremely ill.. A few more day meant I could have lost my leg.. Even my life... So I really want to take this moment to say thank you to them all from the bottom of my heart... To our Doctors, the Dr.’s who treated me, and my Boss(who always has to deal with my stubborn ways..haha)! It is because of you that I am getting better everyday, That I am able to write this, that I have my leg, that I have my life, I love you, God Bless You!"
