To go along with Wrestlemania 26, the April issue of WWE Magazine will feature twenty-six different covers featuring Bret Hart, Chris Jericho, Triple H, Undertaker, The Miz, Ted DiBiase, Evan Bourne, Edge, Batista, Big Show, Christian, CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, Drew McIntyre, Jack Swagger, John Cena, Kane, MVP, Kofi Kingston, Randy Orton, John Morrison, Rey Mysterio, R-Truth, Shawn Michaels, Sheamus and Santino Marella.
Possible Post Wrestlemania Feuds
RAW's annual post-Wrestlemania tour of Europe have John Cena and Triple H vs. Sheamus and Big Show, and Randy Orton vs. Christian as the advertised top matches in most cities, with Triple H vs. Randy Orton and John Cena vs. Sheamus headlining other cities. On the Smackdown side, Chris Jericho vs. Edge, and Rey Mysterio and Kane vs. CM Punk and John Morrison, are being advertised as the top matches in most cities, with Edge vs. Rey Mysterio vs. CM Punk and Kane vs. Drew McIntyre in the remaining venues.
Rey Mysterio Narrowly Avoids Injury
Rey Mysterio avoided a major injury at a Smackdown/ECW live event last week where he was teaming with Kane to face CM Punk & Luke Gallows.
Rey was standing on Kane’s shoulders when Kane started walking before Rey was in place. Rey fell backwards towards the turnbuckle and landed with all of his weight on the left leg. The match was immediately stopped. Referee Jack Doan spoke with Rey, who confirmed he was hurt. Rey rolled out to the floor for a while before the match was re-started. Kane worked the next few minutes by himself and Rey did come back in but only for a few quick spots. Rey limped to the back but did work the TV tapings two nights later and has worked several shows since then.
Rey Mysterio Interview
During an interview with the Mexican newspaper Esto, Rey Mysterio said that he was two to three years away from retirement. However, he made sure to note that his future in the industry hinges on the reconstructive knee surgery he is getting in April — providing he lasts that long.
When asked who will be his replacement as the top Mexican star in WWE when he leaves, he mentioned Dos Caras, Jr. (Alberto Banderas ring name), Super Nova (the son of El Texano) and Incognito; all of whom are in WWE's developmental system. However, he said he doesn't see any of them as his replacement "because WWE doesn't work that way."
Mysterio also said that his match at the Royal Rumble would be a three-way bout with Undertaker and Batista — which has since been changed.
Issues At Rey Mysterio Autograph Signing
There were apparently problems at a Rey Mysterio autograph signing yesterday at a Chicago K-mart where if you purchased $35 worth of WWE merchandise, you got an autograph with Rey. Mysterio arrived late and then had to leave for a WWE live event while lots of people were still in line. Things got out of hand as he was leaving with fans rushing at him. A lot of people who didn't get autographs asked for refunds on their merchandise they had purchased.
Questioning Smackdown Spoiler Report
Our original spoiler report from last night's SmackDown tapings said that Rey Mysterio defeated Batista to earn the World Heavyweight Title shot at the Royal Rumble. Other reports from the tapings say that the match ended in a No Contest and it was teased that The Undertaker would defend his belt against both Batista and Rey Mysterio in a Triple Threat at the Royal Rumble.
WWE Doctor In Legal Trouble
David Chao, the doctor for a number of wrestlers including Rey Mysterio, had a complaint filed against him by the state medical board for unprofessional conduct and alcohol abuse recently. The complaints stem from alleged drunken driving incidents in 1995 and 2006.
Chao has been accused of screwing up a knee replacement so bad it needed to be amputated, fined for failing to maintain adequate medical records and unlawfully writing narcotic prescriptions. He also has been sued 20 times for malpractice, negligence, personal injury, fraud and severing an artery during surgery.
Rey Mysterio Not Getting Surgery Until After Wrestlemania
Regarding his knee injury, Rey Mysterio intends to work through it until after the Wrestlemania 26 PPV.
After this time, it is planned that he will undergo his sixth surgery on his left knee.
In recent times, Mysterio has been unable to work several Wrestlemania PPV events which is why he is delaying the surgery. The Royal Rumble-Wrestlemania period is usually where the talent get their biggest paydays.
Another Update on Rey Mysterio: Headlining Next Week’s Smackdown
Rey Mysterio did in fact work the Smackdown house show this past weekend, although it had been widely reported, even by Jim Ross, that Mysterio was unlikely going to be wrestling in a WWE ring for the remainder of this year.
In an update to the situation, it was announced at last night's ECW/Smackdown taping that next week's Smackdown broadcast will be headlined by Rey Mysterio vs Batista in a Street Fight. So it appears that Rey will be working for at least another week, and the match against Batista next week could be where WWE shoots some type of injury angle. At this point, there have been no reports claiming that Mysterio is NOT going to have the planned surgery.
Rey Mysterio Not Missing Time At All?
Reports from Saturday's SmackDown! brand house show confirmed that Rey Mysterio wrestled in the main event. The appearance, made more intriguing by the fact that Mysterio did not sell or reference the storyline injuries he suffered at the WWE Survivor Series pay-per-view, contradicted reports that Mysterio planned to take several months off to undergo knee surgery.
According to F4WOnline.com, there is a possibility that the Mysterio house show appearance was not a one-time deal. The wrestler is reportedly present at tonight's SmackDown! taping and expected to work the show.
Originally scheduled to continue his feud with Batista for several months, putting off his knee surgery until the new year, Mysterio allegedly instead decided to opt for an immediate surgery that could potentially have had him ready to work the upcoming WrestleMania event.
Unless WWE is planning another injury angle for tonight's SmackDown, it appears Mysterio has once again changed his surgery plans and will indeed resume his active duties on the SmackDown! brand.
