The Rock Gets Asked About His WWE Character
TMZ.com cameras caught up with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson this week and asked the former WWE superstar who owns his signature catch phrases, such as "Do you Smell What The Rock is Cookin." According to Johnson, he and WWE co-own the phrases, as well as the name "The Rock."
When the TMZ cameraman asked him why he used to wear "panties" in the ring, Johnson clarified that he wore "trunks" and that maybe it was just the cameraman dreaming of him in panties.
JR Blog
Jim Ross updated his blog at JRsBarBQ.com and here are some highlights...
- On The Rock's WWE return: "Dwayne Johnson reiterated what we have said here for the longest time and that is that he isn't interested in stepping back in the ring as a wrestler but doing a speaking role and having fun on a wrestling show would be more to his liking. Bottom line, one takes Dwayne any way one can get him as he is a huge star who will pop a TV rating which is the holy grail for wrestling promoters. Will die hards ever admit to themselves that guys like Steve Austin and Dwayne Johnson have wrestled their last match. As Larry the Cable Guy would say....'let it go!'"
- On whether he will make an unadvertised appearance on the March 1 RAW: "It has been reported on line that I am making some sort of unadvertised appearance at the March 1 OKC event as we have been getting emails regarding such. This is all news to me and I know of absolutely nothing that is planned. We are spending considerable time and some in kind donations to help promote the WWE event but that's the extend of it. I do hope to drop by and say hello to friends prior to the event starting but will likely watch the show from home or possibly 'in the back.'"
Update on the Rock’s Role When He Returns to WWE

In a radio interview with Boston's Mix 104 this week, Dwyane "The Rock" Johnson shed some new light on his upcoming WWE return, which is expected to take place this summer.
When asked if he plans on wrestling a match, The Rock said:
"How I would come back is a different capacity than what Hulk Hogan did or I believe Ric Flair is doing. Those guys are coming back to actually wrestle. I don't want to wrestle; I have no intention of wrestling a match."
The Rock plans on having a major impact on WWE programming and could serve as a semi-permanent RAW Guest host for the entire summer:
"I do have intention of going back and hosting the show. hosting a show like that would give me the opportunity to get on the microphone, rip open the writing, and invite guests on to come host with me. We wanted to create something cool and big and fun for the audience."
John Cena Takes A Shot at Hulk Hogan
WWE superstar John Cena took part in a live chat session Monday night on WWE.com and here are some highlights:
- Cena was asked whether he's interested in fighting Hulk Hogan. He responded with a jab at Hogan and TNA, saying, "Yes. I just don't think that's going to happen right now. He's too busy wasting his time."
- He has no current plans to release another rap album, but will be working again with rapper Bumpy Knuckles for a song on the soundtrack of his upcoming WWE Studios film, "Legendary" (previously titled "Brother's Keeper").
- When asked who he'd like to wrestle at Wrestlemania, he stated, "The Rock." As Cena answered another question about his movie career, host Joey Styles chimed in by saying Cena's next movie will be better than The Rock's recent "Tooth Fiary" movie.
The Rock’s Movie Career Gets Criticized
Movie website Cinematical.com features a fan rant questioning the success of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's movie career. The article flashes back to Johnson's 2003 action movie "The Rundown," which featured a cameo from Arnold Schwarzenegger, who told Johnson to "Have fun" in a symbolic passing of the "action hero" torch. Since then, Johnson has only done two other action movies (Walking Tall and Doom) and has settled into a career of comedies and kids movies.
The author questions whether the era of action movie stars is over and suggests that The Rock's upcoming return to WWE is a result of his movie career not taking off as he had hoped.
Update on The Rock Returning to the WWE
There are some in WWE that aren't sure as to whether The Rock's recent interview comments about not wanting to wrestle John Cena were honest or a fun way to plant the seeds for an inevitable future match.
Regarding his plans, the word is that he will be involved in a short-term angle when Summerslam rolls around in August. At this point, the chances of him actually wrestling appear to be slim.
No Chance of John Cena Facing The Rock At Wrestlemania 26
WWE's creative team has been told that there is no chance of The Rock vs. John Cena at Wrestlemania and right now are back to working on Cena vs. Batista for the big event.
The Rock Wants To Return to An Edgier Product
Thanks to James Caldwell and PWTorch.com for the following recap:
Former WWE champion "The Rock" Dwayne Johnson says he wants to return to WWE for a guest-hosting role or to wrestle a match only if he can "rip up" the writing for the current TV product and tap into the Attitude era with an edgier product.
Johnson shed light on what he's meant the past few months when he has said he wants to create something special beyond just guest-hosting one episode of RAW during an interview with Live Audio Wrestling.
"I want to use the platform as a host to literally rip things open. There's so much stuff we can do," Johnson told John Pollock of LAW. "We're going to create an incredible show, an incredible Raw. I'm doing another movie, but after that, we're going to create something special, unique, something badass for the fans. Talking to Vince (McMahon), whenever that's going to be, we're going to have a great time."
Johnson echoed what he said on ESPN last week that he wouldn't rule out wrestling, but only if he can turn the writing upside down and create a compelling storyline leading to a match.
"I accomplished everything I wanted to accomplish in wrestling, so I wouldn't rule out going back," Johnson said. "If the match was right and we could create something really unique and cool for the fans and for my opponent and for the company, I would do it in a second."
Johnson also said he has no interest in wrestling John Cena, but he talked about what it would take for him to work a program with Cena. The two quotes below capture in-depth Johnson's mentality on working with WWE again.
"I've never been interested in wrestling John Cena. The guys I wrestled in the past - from Goldberg to Hogan to Austin - were guys who I've really wanted to wrestle. If it can be done creatively but not only that, it's very important if I do back is that the writing has to be ripped open and really be pushed," Johnson said. "I came from a time in the Attitude era where we trail-blazed a lot and were fearless in the things we said and did."
Johnson added: "There are a lot of restrictions now on the product, which by the way, I understand, and I enjoy some of the stuff I see and I know some of the writers and they're challenged every week, but if in fact I do go back, it would be an interesting collision of an Attitude time that I loved and the time now, but I'm sure we can always infuse things to make it work."
Injury Keeping The Rock From Making A Full Return?
A possible reason why Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson doesn't want to wrestle another match in WWE is because he torn his achilles tendon during the filming of The Game Plan. According to Dave Meltzer, Johnson is still not 100% healed to this day and was continuing to hurt during the filming of The Tooth Fairy. It's been reported that he was going to learn how to skate for the movie but couldn't due to the injury.
Wrestlemania Plans
» There are still reports going around that WWE wants to bring The Rock in to wrestle John Cena at WrestleMania. He's definitely going to guest host RAW but a WrestleMania match is not at all confirmed just yet. That's not to say it couldn't happen as The Rock seems interested in a return. That's a total 180 from what he was saying a few years ago.
» We can now confirm that WrestleMania 26 in March will once again feature a Money in the Bank ladder match with a #1 contender’s contract on the line. RAW superstar Kofi Kingston was the favorite to win, but those plans may have changed as his push has cooled down in recent weeks. WrestleMania plans change all the time.
