Jim Ross Blog

Jim Ross has updated his blog at JRsBarBQ.com and here are the highlights:
- Enjoyed watching the Royal Rumble on PPV as the show closing last few minutes really made the show for me.
- CM Punk had a memorable Rumble match. Great mic work. Punk's hairy chest, as I pointed out during the show on Twitter, makes him look even more like a villain. Punk had a stellar night.
- Edge was the star of the night and him winning the Royal Rumble disrupts the Road to Wrestlemania and makes February's Elimination Chamber PPV more intriguing. That PPV is only 3 weeks way. I like the episodic way that several issues are progressing.
- Anxious to see the Hitman=McMahon confrontation Monday night on Raw from Nashville. I'll miss being there with King as we always went downtown to Jack's BBQ near the Grand Old Opry for lunch.
Update on Changes to ECW
To update the story that WWE will be overhauling the ECW brand in the coming months, the latest is that big changes are planned but won't be made until after Wrestlemania. While many ideas have been tossed around, the most likely scenario is that the ECW letters will be dropped and the show will be rebranded featuring mostly younger superstars. SyFy executives have been pushing for WWE to incorporate themes such as science fiction and conspiracies.

JBL Comments on The Arrest of Chris Jericho & Gregory Helms
JBL posted a new Facebook blog in which he commented on the recent arrests of Chris Jericho and Hurricane Helms for public intoxication.
"I see in the news that a couple of my good friends got a free ride the other day and a little fine to go with it," JBL wrote. "I understand why this is news-Chris Jericho and my boy Hurricane Helms are on a TV show that is watched by hundreds of millions of people around the globe-getting arrested is big news even if it is a minor deal. And believe me, from what I have heard this is a minor deal."
"But come on...there were no drugs and both guys were smart enough to plan not to drive while under the influence. In these days of celebrities that aren't as big as these guys and some bigger doing drugs and being completely irresponsible this is akin to a parking ticket. Most people out there if they were surrounded by friends and doing what they love would be guilty of having a few too many at times. This is all this was. Repeat...no drugs and no one was driving. Just a few too many and in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Update on The Rock Returning to the WWE
There are some in WWE that aren't sure as to whether The Rock's recent interview comments about not wanting to wrestle John Cena were honest or a fun way to plant the seeds for an inevitable future match.
Regarding his plans, the word is that he will be involved in a short-term angle when Summerslam rolls around in August. At this point, the chances of him actually wrestling appear to be slim.
Beth Phoenix Comments on Being The Second Woman to Enter The Royal Rumble
Last night at the Royal Rumble, Beth Phoenix became the second woman ever to compete in the annual 30-"man" battle royal. The Glamazon spoke to WWE.com last night about the experience and had some very harsh words for the first woman to enter the Rumble, former Diva Joanie "Chyna" Laurer.
Phoenix told WWE.com, “Despite Chyna’s accomplishments [in the Rumble]. I eliminated The Great Khali. Seven-foot-three, 420 pounds. No small feat."
She then rips into Chyna, questioning whether she's a man or woman. "I am WWE’s Glamazon. Chyna was WWE’s Ninth Wonder of the World … mostly called so because people wondered whether she was a man or a woman. I often wonder this, myself.”
Phoenix admits that she used to look up to Chyna, but would destroy her today if the two ever fought in the ring.
“Chyna would have had a slight size advantage in her primebut I’ll tell you what Chyna was missing and that was heart ... Chyna got comfortable, she got soft in her position. I’m quite the opposite. I get better and better. In the ring, toe-to-toe with me, Chyna doesn’t compare.”
