New Round of Drug Testing In TNA
ProWrestling.net is reporting that another round of drug testing was issued to the talent backstage at Impact this week. It was apparently a test issued to the entire roster, as several top names in the company were tested.
Shane Carwin’s UFC Future
Shane Carwin issued the following statement:
"My next fight is up in the air a little bit right now. I could probably come back in February but my little girl is going to be born in February and I don’t want to miss that. It’s been an extremely long camp. I started in July to fight Cain (Velasquez) and then I got the call to fight Brock (Lesnar). I get prepared for UFC 106 then that’s off. Then UFC 108 came and then it was off a week or two later. It’s been up and down. All we can hope is Brock can get better. He’s definitely in our prayers. I would assume another fight will come first. I don’t know what’s out there just yet but I assume [a Velasquez fight] will happen if Brock can’t compete. I want to fight the best and challenge myself. Right now Brock holds the title. To be the champ, you gotta beat the champ. It’s a fight I’m still excited for but at the same time there’s a lot of heavyweights that are just as tough and on the same level. It’s an exciting division. Whoever you get in the UFC is a tough fight and that’s what I expect going forward, just a hard fought battle every time out."
Eric Bischoff Goes To TNA Offices
Eric Bischoff was in the TNA Wrestling offices in Nashville, TN last week. No other details are known at this time regarding what he was doing in Nashville. Bischoff has stayed relatively quiet since the announcement of Hulk Hogan signing with TNA and how his BHE TV company agreed to a deal with Spike TV in partnership with TNA. He did write on his Twitter page the days following the Hogan announcement:
“Getting a real kick out of all the speculation and ‘inside knowledge’ being spread in the internet…pretty funny.”
Update on AJ’s Mystery Attacker
We reported several weeks ago that the current creative plan in TNA calls for Tomko to be revealed as AJ Styles' mystery attacker on Impact. ProWrestling.net is now reporting that the idea is to have AJ face Tomko at either the January of February PPV of 2010. Reports are indicating that although Tomko has signed a short term deal with TNA, he IS expected to eventually face Styles on PPV.
Dana White Is Furious Because A UFC Fighter Pulls Out of UFC Fight At the Last Minute
UFC president Dana White has just posted a message on Twitter stating that welterweight Karo Parisyan will be pulling out of his fight just moments before showtime once again. An irritated White stated that the Armenian will never again see the inside of a UFC Octagon.
“Karo Parisyan has [expletive] over the UFC, the fans and his opponent again!!! He will not be fighting saturday or ever again in the UFC!!”
And then he added:
“Pulled out of the fight the day before weigh ins again with a laundry list of excuses!!! Let the press ask karo why! Let him explain.”
Parisyan was slated to take on Dustin Hazelett at UFC 106 this weekend inside the Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. White later stated that Hazelett will be awarded his entire purse AND win bonus, so today’s news wasn’t too bad for the submission specialist.
The Rock Working With WWE?
In some great news for WWE fans, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson told the Jack Diamond Morning Show in Washington, D.C. that he is working closely with World Wrestling Entertainment to create a special edition of programming, and also indicated he has a "great relationship" with Vince McMahon.
"I love that world and being able to entertain, especially if I could go back and it's on Smackdown and do a promo or guest host or we could create this cool show, whatever that may be," Johnson said. "Especially now, I'm at the point where I can go back and give back to the fans and help out guys in any way I can...
"Right now, we're trying to put together - there is always something cool and interesting for me to do. I would like to do something more than just host the show. I'm in the process of creating something really cool for the fans - something very special and unique. It will be something like one big entertaining show."
Paul Heyman Blogs About What Brock Lesnar’s Health Problems Mean for the UFC
In his latest blog update at HeymanHustle.com, Paul Heyman talks about what Brock Lesnar's recent health problems mean for the UFC brand. Lesnar is UFC's top draw - with the shows he fights on drawing over 1 million pay-per-view buys. Heyman says that despite the setback, the UFC will survive because they've done a great job establishing their brand and earning the trust of their audience.
Christopher Daniels speaks on Hulk Hogan To TNA
Christopher Daniels appeared on the "Busted Open" radio show and talked about the televised speech that Dixie Carter delivered to the wrestlers:
"I didn't mind that it was aired on television," Daniels said. "I don't think she said anything... The people who take it like it was airing dirty laundry, all I took it as was this is the starting point... She said there were going to be changes made and things are going to be happening for TNA, and everybody across the board from the wrestlers to production to the people behind the scenes need to step it up. And that's fine with me."
Daniels was also asked about Hulk Hogan signing with the company:
"Honestly, right now it's just sort of a wait and see situation for me personally," he said. "I know that the name Hulk Hogan has been synonymous with wrestling for forever. So many of us have grown up watching him and knowing what he brought to the wrestling business. Now for him to be here at TNA, you have to wait and see what's going to happen."
He also added the following:
"I'm not really sure what his status is going to be and what his position is going to be here, but you can just look at all the talk that has happened since he signed. It's become almost a monster in the sense that that's all everyone is talking about. 'What's Hogan going to do with TNA? What's going to happen to TNA now that Hogan is there?' So it's bringing attention to our product. It's bringing attention to TNA."
Jerry Lawler Talks About Jim Ross’ Return
Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler noted in an interview with The Sun Newspaper that he expects Jim Ross to be fit for a Wrestlemania return. Lawler said “There’s a strong possibility that WrestleMania could be when he makes a return. This was JR’s third attack of Bell’s Palsy and has sidelined him for several months due to the nerve regeneration process which can take a few month to grow back. Lawler closed his thoughts by saying “He is the voice of the WWE and WrestleMania wouldn’t be the same without hearing him.”
McMahons Worth Close to $500 Million
Paperwork filed by Linda McMahon in Connecticut for her 2010 Senate reveal that her and Vince McMahon have upwards of $500 million in assets. Linda has donated over $3 million of McMahon money to the campaign, making her an "instant player" in the Senate race.
The chairman of the Government & Politics department at Sacred Heart University tells the Connecticut Post, "McMahon has just blown right by them (other Republican candidates) in terms of resources. It's just extraordinary. We've never had anybody that has had wealth like this campaigning."
According to the filing, Linda and Vince have $103.7 million in total assets and $355.13 million in stocks, bank accounts, investments, etc. Together, they received "at least" $8.97 million in salary and investment income from WWE during a period from January 2008 to October 2009.
