Fixing the WWE Tag Team Division

With just a couple of changes, WWE could easily themselves a good tag team division again. It could even become competitive.

Declining Division Let's face, the tag team division in WWE is absolutely horrendous right now. Neither the WWE Tag Team Championship nor the World Tag Team Championship have much of a chance of being defended at Wrestlemania 24. None of the current tag teams out there have much of a chance of being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame some day. In fact, the current tag team champions (Cody Rhodes & Hardcore Holly, John Morrison & the Miz) don't even have a tag team feud to work with. It's just a division that is barely getting by on life support. That's a shame, too. The WWE tag team division was once so thriving that good tag teams like the Rockers, Power & Glory, the Powers of Pain, and the Killer Bees didn't even get to hold the titles. They even had enough tag teams back then to have tag team Survivor Series matches. The talent is still there in WWE to have a good tag team division again. The only thing that's missing is the focus and attention that the division deserves in order to succeed. It also wouldn't hurt to have a couple of more tag teams.

Subtle Solution

There's not going to be a quick fix. Edge & Christian, the Hardy Boys, and the Dudley Boys aren't going to be walking through those doors any time soon.

The thing that WWE used to be brilliant at was taking two midcard wrestlers who weren't doing much on their own and turning them into a functional tag team. The New Age Outlaws (Road Dogg & Billy Gunn) are prime examples of this.

There's plenty of midcard wrestlers right now in WWE that aren't doing anything that could add depth to the tag team division. Here's some ideas.

• Boogeyman & Kane - Boogeyman isn't even on television, and Kane hasn't really had a legitimate feud in a while.
• Chuck Palumbo & Balls Mahoney - Balls Mahoney's character isn't that far off from being a biker. Plus, they both have been jaded by women.
• Elijah Burke & Mark Henry - This would be a great combination of athleticism and power.
• Kenny Dykstra & Mike Knox - Another combination featuring an athletic guy and a powerful guy.
• Umaga & Great Khali - These two guys could play the part of the dominating tag team. Similar to the tag team of Haku & Andre the Giant.
• Charlie Haas & DH Smith - Pairing up the youngster with a veteran performer like Charlie Haas can be quite educational.

Closing Thoughts

Little steps like these will go a long way in solving the tag team division woes.

Matt Hardy

Matt Hardy made his return to Smackdown at a house show in Indiana over the weekend. He attacked MVP after he beat Jimmy Wang Yang.

Maria Kanellis

It didn't take long for Maria Kanellis' Playboy photo shoot to leak on to the internet. The pictures are available before WWE unveiled the cover.

Tammy Sytch

Tammy Sytch, formerly known as Sunny, has been telling people that she hopes to be back in WWE before the end of the year.

As expected, Bobby Knight rejected the job offer from TNA. It was a publicity stunt from the beginning that generated some media coverage.

Abyss

TNA has removed Abyss' profile from their website to help sell the storyline that he's leaving the company. He'll be back soon with a new gimmick.

John Legend has been confirmed to sing the national anthem at Wrestlemania 24. Nothing against him, but we would have been fine with Lilian Garcia.

Vince McMahon

WWE is spending $70 million on building a brand new television studio in Connecticut. The new studio will be triple the size of the current one.

Sunday Night Heat

Sunday Night Heat has reached their 500th episode. It's probably bigger news to wrestling fans that Heat is still around. Most people have forgotten.
