The MVP of Wrestlemania
MVP likes to brag a lot about being the Most Valuable Player in WWE, but at Wrestlemania, he actually could be the MVP of the show.

Starring Role
The most anticipated match at Wrestlemania this year involves a title, but it's not a title that everyone thinks it is.
You don't have to outlast 29 other wrestlers in the Royal Rumble for this title. You don't have to win brutal Elimination Chamber matches. You don't have to ascend atop a tall ladder against 5 other wrestlers.
The title we're talking about is the WWE United States Heavyweight Championship.
It is the belt that has been around the waist of MVP since May 20, 2007.
That's quite a while. In fact, by the time Wrestlemania rolls around, MVP would have held the belt for more than 300 days.
That makes him the 5th longest champion in the history of that belt. He's ahead of legendary wrestlers like Ric Flair, Sting, Dusty Rhodes, Chris Benoit, Harley Race, Roddy Piper, Magnum TA, and Tully Blanchard.
Of course, all of that would be secondary in his feud with Matt Hardy.
The match between the two at Wrestlemania would have been more about who the better man was. For months now, they've engaged in various battles to see who the better man is.
That's how you properly build up a Wrestlemania match. |
Supporting Cast
The match between Matt Hardy and MVP would have been the most anticipated match for those of us who are students of the game. For those of us that still believe in long term feuds and battles, this match would have been the epitome of old school wrestling booking.
However, if Matt Hardy doesn't make his return soon to hype up the match, we're probably going to see MVP involved in a "backup match" at Wrestlemania. The guy has drawn enough heat over the last year that he deserves a spot at Wrestlemania. It would be a crime to not include him in the biggest pay per view of the year, so the writers will come up with something for him.
From the looks of things lately, it appears as if that backup plan would be a match between MVP and Batista.
Over the past few weeks, WWE has strangely booked matches where Batista is dominating MVP. That's not really a good look for the guy that is supposedly your second most valuable champion on the Smackdown brand.
Of course, a good way to explain these losses would be to set up a Wrestlemania match where MVP is the underdog. The writers can make it seem as if MVP would definitely lose against Batista, a former World Heavyweight Champion. Then, at Wrestlemania, MVP can get the surprise win and earn enough credibility to move up into the main event scene.
Closing Thoughts
We're really hoping Matt Hardy comes back and wrestles MVP at Wrestlemania. The potential match of the year award is waiting for them. |
Nunzio
Tommy Dreamer wasn't the only WWE wrestler present at the TNA show in New York City this week. Nunzio was also in attendance as well. |
|
Roddy Piper
Rowdy Roddy Piper has been telling people that he is completely free of cancer now. He will more than likely be at the WWE Hall of Fame 2008 induction. |

On a recent radio interview, Hulk Hogan publicly stated that WWE needs to sign him for Wrestlemania because the show doesn't have a real main event. |
|

The Smackdown crew has another weekend off this week. They will resume work on Tuesday night when they tape Smackdown from Tucson, Arizona. |
Mark Cuban
Mark Cuban, the owner of the Dallas Mavericks, is currently negotiating with Vince McMahon to promote his new MMA promotion. Interesting combination. |
|
Raw Brand
The Raw crew also has the weekend off as well. They will resume work when they do Monday Night Raw live from Phoenix, Arizona on Monday. |
TNA iMPACT!
TNA iMPACT! scored a 1.1 in the ratigs this week. That's basically what they have been averaging for the last few weeks. |

JBL
JBL will be making a special appearance as an instructor for the IWF Wrestling School. The thought of JBL in the ring with young guys is scary. |
