Steiner Surprises
Here we are in 2008, and Scott Steiner has himself a shot at the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. Not many people would have predicted that.
A lot of people thought that Scott Steiner's days as a main event wrestler were over. Fans thought that he would simply be relegated to the tag team division and the midcard division.
Well, at Against All Odds this past weekend, Scott Steiner predictably defeated Petey Williams for the shot at the TNA World Heavyweight Championship.
It was predictable because there's very little chance that Petey Williams (as talented as he is) was going to get a title shot.
Of course, the storyline with the title shot isn't necessarily done, so Scott Steiner can still lose his shot at Kurt Angle's belt. However, the strong belief is that he will get the title shot.
The fact that management went through the trouble of acquiring a valet (the debuting Trenesha Biggers) leads many to believe that Scott Steiner is in line for a push.
It might not be a world title push, but it'll be a push nonetheless. As long as he's somewhat relevant, Scott Steiner doesn't need the belt for his push to be a success. |
Angling For Angle
The big question now is how to book Scott Steiner into a program with Kurt Angle. You can't just throw him into a program for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. You need to build him up first.
Since he's only been involved in programs with Team 3D and Petey Williams, the man known as Big Poppa Pump is going to need to beat some midcard wrestlers being moving up to the main event.
Scott Steiner is going to need to beat someone credible as opposed to just beating low card wrestlers like Kaz, Elix Skipper or Eric Young. He's going to need someone higher on the card. Someone like Abyss, who is stronger after coming off of a win over Judas Mesias at Against All Odds.
After that, TNA can finally have Scott Steiner cash in on his title shot. Of course, the title shot doesn't necessarily have to be at a pay per view. In fact, it might be better if the title shot occurred on an episode of TNA iMPACT! instead.
First of all, Scott Steiner doesn't have a lot of drawing power right now as a singles wrestler. Headling a pay per view with Kurt Angle and Scott Steiner might not appeal to a lot of fans. Secondly, the company should give away a big title match on TNA iMPACT! for free to give the show that special feel. It would make fans believe that something special could happen on TNA iMPACT!
Of course, TNA could also swerve everyone by having Scott Steiner losing his title shot to someone like Christian Cage or Samoa Joe.
Closing Thoughts
At the very least, this move gives us a fresh face (it's been a while since Scott Steiner has been on a singles push) in the main event title scene. |
