The turn is finally complete, and Chuck Palumbo is now a heel. What the writers do with him next is going to determine whether or not this was a successful move.

Chucking the Fans
Face it. Chuck Palumbo had to turn heel. During the last few months, the only reaction he received from the audience was people getting up to go to the bathrooms.
As a wrestler, you want the fans to either love you or hate you. What you never want is for them to be indifferent towards you.
Based on the reactions from last night's heel turn, things are looking up for Chuck Palumbo. He was actually able to get a proper reaction from the audience (minus a few comedians in the crowd).
The next two feuds for Chuck Palumbo are going to decide whether or not he'll achieve a level of success in his latest sting with the company.
First of all, Chuck Palumbo has to beat Jamie Noble in this feud. If not, then all of his momentum will have gone to waste. Winning the feud by any means possible would go a long way towards making the audience hate him even more.
Going into a feud with a popular mid card wrestler next would be the way to go. If Matt Hardy wins the WWE United States Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania as expected, then that would be a perfect feud for Chuck Palumbo to jump into. He doesn't necessarily need to win the title right away. He just needs the credibility from the feud. |
Double Turn
Lost amidst the Chuck Palumbo heel turn is the potential babyface turn for Jamie Noble. The writers haven't really come out and do the complete turn yet, but Jamie Noble's actions the last few weeks strongly suggest that the former Ring of Honor World Heavyweight Champion is about to start receiving cheers.
If done right, this double turn could end up elevating both Chuck Palumbo and Jamie Noble. If done right, Smackdown could possibly have themselves two more players in the race for the WWE United States Heavyweight Championship.
In fact, Jamie Noble could possibly surpass Chuck Palumbo thanks to this storyline. His southern boy gimmick just needs a few tweaks in order to become popular with the audience. He can gain applauds from the audience in much the same way Jesse and Festus does. Actually, it wouldn't be that bad of an idea to pair Jamie Noble up with the young tag team. With Michelle McCool by their sides, those three guys could become a featured midcard attraction for Smackdown.
With a little more popularity, Jamie Noble can even be placed into a feud with WWE United States Heavyweight Champion MVP. Their characters come from different spectrums of the world. The storyline basically writes itself. The feud could also do well for MVP in that he would get to work with another established worker. Jamie Noble, who was trained by Dean Malenko, is an underrated worker in the ring.
It's doubtful that Jamie Noble will ever hold the World Heavyweight Championship, but there are plenty of other important roles to fill on the roster.
Closing Thoughts
Aside from a few minor off key moments, the buildup and execution for this heel turn has been pretty good. |
