Breaking the Walls Down
It was a little over 2 years ago that Chris Jericho walked away from the WWE. Not a day has gone by since then where wrestling fans haven't discussed all of the possibilities of his eventual return.
Prior to his departure, the writers decided to turn Chris Jericho into a heel again so that he can be utilized in a feud with John Cena over the WWE Heavyweight Championship. It has been somewhat of an unspoken tradition in the WWE to utilize a departing wrestler to help put over a remaining wrestler.
At WWE Vengeance 2005, John Cena successfully defended his WWE Heavyweight Championship against both Chris Jericho and Christian (now known as Christian Cage in TNA).
There was a bit of controversy at the time because many internet wrestling fans bashed the WWE for adding Chris Jericho to the match because management didn't feel that Christian was enough of a draw.
After WWE Vengeance 2005, the writers decided to continue the feud with Chris Jericho and John Cena.
Chris Jericho was defeated in a title match at Summerslam 2005. The next night on Raw, Chris Jericho lost to John Cena in a "You're Fired" match. Just like that, Chris Jericho was gone from the WWE. |
Dropping Hints
Chris Jericho has a great sense of humor. He's also very much aware of the internet wrestling community. After his departure, he teased wrestling fans a couple of times about a potential return, knowing that it would cause quite a buzz.
In the past ten years, Chris Jericho is easily ranked among the most popular wrestlers in the entire world. Just the mere mention of the word "wrestling" coming out of his mouth causes millions of fans to log into various message boards.
With the WWE in a bit of funk lately, a superstar like Chris Jericho becomes even more attractive. He can be an instant main eventer in either TNA or the WWE.
On Monday Night Raw, the WWE themselves dropped a hint; a hint that has caused a lot of anxious wrestling fans to speculate that Chris Jericho is returning.
The video was brilliantly vague, so fans would have hundreds of ways to connect it to Chris Jericho. The video had plenty of numbers involved, which led many to tie it to Chris Jericho's countdown entrance. Some have even gone as far as mathematically connect the string of words to Chris Jericho.
Then, there are the skeptics. The skeptics believe that the video clip was a promotional clip for the upcoming Cyber Sunday pay per view. The pay per view occurs three short weeks after the No Mercy pay per view, so it would make sense for the WWE to immediately start advertising for it.
Closing Thoughts
Wrestling needs Chris Jericho. Simple as that. |
