Time Off
Marcus Cor Von has been taking time off from the WWE since June.
The official word is that he taking care of some "family issues". Insiders believe that there was a death in the family, and Marcus Cor Von has been left to take care of his young relatives (perhaps nieces and nephews).
The WWE had agreed to give him time off to deal with things, but now, both sides have agreed to terminate his contract.
Going Somewhere?
It's interesting to note that the WWE would choose to release Marcus Cor Von instead of keeping him under contract while he was taking care of his family.
Had there been plans for Marcus Cor Von to return to the WWE at a later date, they would have taken that route. The two sides could have agreed to let him take time off without pay.
This leads many to believe that Marcus Cor Von could be headed elsewhere. In order to do that, he would definitely need to be released from his WWE contract.
It wouldn't be a surprise to see Marcus Cor Von return to TNA since he would only have to work about 3 times a month. |
Lackluster
Marcus Cor Von made his WWE debut in January of 2007. He left before he could make a big impact.
Granted, the WWE booked him to win more than he lost, but Marcus Cor Von was never really booked as a main event wrestler. He played a secondary role in the New Breed (sometimes, he was even third to Kevin Thorn).
Things were starting to look up for Marcus Cor Von when he was one of the four wrestlers booked to compete in a tournament to fill the vacant ECW Heavyweight Championship. Marcus Cor Von was defeated by CM Punk, who advanced to the finals at Vengeance (but was defeated by John Morrison, who was substituting for Chris Benoit).
Then again, with ECW recently booking Kevin Thorn, Stevie Richards, Tommy Dreamer, and Elijah Burke in a tournament to determine a new number one contender.
None of those four wrestlers have shown to be "worthy" of that spot. Kevin Thorn lost to Stevie Richards more often than not. Stevie Richards himself isn't viewed as a credible challenger by the audience. Tommy Dreamer is a fan favorite, but very few would believe that he can take the belt from CM Punk. Elijah Burke deserves to be in the main event, but not after the writers neglected him for months.
With that said , we're not sure if Marcus Cor Von was being pushed or not when he was booked in tournament to fill the vacant ECW Heavyweight Championship.
One has to wonder if Marcus Cor Von would have suffered the same fate as Elijah Burke these past few months where he gets demoted for no apparent reasons.
Closing Thoughts
Marcus Cor Von put his family ahead of his career. That's very commendable. |
