Elijah Burke
In the previous episode of ECW on Sci Fi, we were a bit shocked when Balls Mahoney beat Elijah Burke. Nothing against Balls Mahoney, but it was hard to predict that would get the win over the man who Vince McMahon called "the face of ECW".
This week, Elijah Burke gets the win against Balls Mahoney in a rematch. It was a cheap win, though, as the Miz and Extreme Expose were ringside to provide some distraction to Balls Mahoney.
The win also felt meaningless for Elijah Burke because it was quite evident that he was used in those two matches simply for the sake of helping to further the storyline between the Miz and Balls Mahoney.
In fact, there hasn't been too many meaningful wins for Elijah Burke for the last few weeks. He hasn't even engaged in a meaningful feud in that time frame either.
Elijah Burke has been depushed and misused so badly for the past few weeks now. It's almost disgusting.
There aren't any reports about Elijah Burke being in trouble with management, so we're left to believe that this is simply a case of the writers not knowing what to do with him. |
Marcus Cor Von
Marcus Cor Von disappeared from ECW a few weeks back.
At the time of his disappearance, the reason was kept pretty secretive. Then, word leaked out that Marcus Cor Von was taking some time off from the WWE to tend to some family issues. It is speculated that after a death in his family, he has been the main caretaker of some young relatives.
Pretty honorable of the man, if you ask us. He should definitely take as much time as he needs to take care of his family. We're basically speaking on terms of how things should be when he does choose to come back.
Face Breed
It's not secret that ECW is in desperate need of top level faces to complement CM Punk. Why else do you think we're seeing the same guy lose every pay per view to John Morrison?
Tommy Dreamer and Stevie Richards are sentimental favorites because of their connection to the original ECW, but neither guy should be more than occasional main eventers at this point.
The Boogeyman as of late has been utilized as the #2 face in ECW. He's an interesting character, but he doesn't have the credibility to be a main eventer.
Elijah Burke and Marcus Cor Von have that credibility. Plus, they've been out of the spotlight for so long that turning them face wouldn't be that difficult. Just bring them out one night as CM Punk is being attacked by John Morrison, Big Daddy V, and Matt Stryker.
They make the save, and we have ourselves some new top level faces.
Closing Thoughts
Even with a limited roster, ECW sometimes ends up being the best show of the week over Monday Night Raw and Smackdown. That accomplishment becomes more routine if Elijah Burke and Marcus Cor Von are major players again. |
