The Protection Of Randy Orton
Randy Orton has friends in high places.
Despite getting sent home from a European tour for causing $30,000's worth of damage to a hotel room, Orton continues to get a push. Most wrestlers would have easily been released for lesser incidents. Several reasons are behind that.
The biggest reason behind it is that Triple H supports him. HHH believes that Orton can still draw in the business. While HHH is recovering from his injury, he has requested that Orton be kept strong for an eventual feud between the two when he returns from his injury.
A feud between Orton and HHH can easily headline big pay per view like SummerSlam without having any championships involved. There's enough of a history between the two to keep the storyline interesting.
The thin roster in the WWE is another reason why Orton continues to get his push. Whether you like him or don't like him, you have to accept that Orton is still one of the bigger names in the business. He might not be a household name, but then again how many wrestlers are now a days?
Orton still has enough of a name in the business to be able to headline Wrestlemania with John Cena. The writers have been looking for new opponents for Cena, as evident by the lopsided WWE Draft Lottery. An Orton/Cena feud for the WWE Heavyweight Championship would be fresh and new.
A name like Orton could easily help a company like TNA. His familiarity could help bring a few new fans for TNA. The addition of Kurt Angle and Christian have helped out TNA despite what the numbers and Eric Bischoff will tell you.
A lot of people are under the impression that Orton is well aware of his position, so he'll continue to do things his way, knowing that there's little chance of him being punished. This is the same guy who has confessed to smoking marijuana backstage and has harassed several of the divas.
Is it fair? No. Is it business? Hell yes. |
