Always Sensational
The entire wrestling community was saddened by the loss of the Sensational Sherri this week.
Former WWE wrestler, Tom Prichard: "It’s so cliché, but we’ve lost a legend who really loved this business, and gave a lot to it. She had a heart and a passion that matched the most passionate men in this business. I mean, it was really a man’s sport back then, but she pulled her weight and didn’t ask for any shortcuts. A lot of us have lost a good friend."
Former ECW manager, Francine: " She was my main influence when I started my training. I looked up to her in so many different ways."
WWE Commentator, Jim Ross: "Sherri was tougher than a $2 steak, but had a heart of gold. Her genuine enthusiasm and love of the business was so evident when she was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame last year."
Sherri has gone by numerous names in her career. Sensational Sherri, Sister Sherri, Sensuous Sherri, and Queen Sherri. Through all the name changes, one thing remained the same. She was one of the most entertaining managers in wrestling.
Most fans only know of her as a manager, but her career started out as a wrestler. She was trained by the legendary Fabulous Moolah and made her debut in 1980.
Sherri actually is the only wrestler ever to hold two world titles for two different major organizations at the same time. She defeated the Fabulous Moolah for the WWE's women's title on her debut. She was still the AWA women's champion at the time.
Her career as a manager was just as impressive as her career as a wrestler. She's managed such notable wrestlers like Ted DiBiase, Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair, Randy Savage, and King Booker.
Sherri was named Manager of the Year in 1991. Her induction into the WWE Hall of Fame came in 2006.
Sherri was a tremendous asset to the world of wrestling. She will be missed.
Rest in peace, Sherri. |
