Backstage Chaos
It seems as if things are pretty chaotic in the WWE locker room lately. People are getting released left and right. Storylines are being changed more often as usual.
Much of the storylines that were written out for the year have been changed. Injuries have had a lot to do with it.
On Smackdown, the entire main event scene had to be readjusted because of injuries to the Undertaker and Ken Kennedy. The writers had to take the belt off of Undertaker, who was expected to have the first lengthy title reign of his career. Kennedy was rumored to have taken over the top spot on Smackdown, but his injury forced the writers to bring Edge over from Raw and give im the top spot.
On Raw, injuries to Shawn Michaels and HHH have forced the writers to stall with the title by having John Cena feud with a challenger who lacks credibility. As imposing as the Great Khali is, very few people felt Khali was actually going to win the title.
Fortunately, the WWE is reviving the Draft Lottery in an attempt to mix things up. The WWE Draft Lottery is a great idea which has unexplicably been dropped for the last few years. If used properly, the WWE Draft Lottery can catapult midcarders into the main event and balance out the rosters.
Another problem going on backstage has been with the writing staff. Recently, the WWE hired three new members to their writing staff. Within days, two of them have already been fired from the company.
One writer was released because he "didn't fit in" too well. The other writer was released because he obviously had very little knowledge of wrestling. It's been said that he wasn't aware that Raw and Smackdown were separate brands and separate shows.
The problem has been that management usually looks for writers with previous experience working in Hollywood as opposed to hiring writers with knowledge of wrestling. It's a different approach that hasn't really paid off. The WWE would probably be better with guys like Paul Heyman, Eric Bischoff, Dusty Rhodes, Michael Hayes, Arn Anderson, Ricky Steamboat, etc; all of whom are already on the payroll.
Hopefully, things get back to normal once all of the injuries have healed.
