Rob Van Dam's Surprising Win
The biggest suprise at One Night Stand last night was Rob Van Dam's victory.
Everyone is quite aware that RVD's contract is expiring soon with the WWE. RVD has already rejected every offer that the WWE has thrown his way. The reason is because RVD wishes to take some time off to rest his body and to be with his wife.
Though plenty of rumors are springing up in regards to what RVD will do next, chances are, he's going to enjoy a few months away from wrestling before deciding if he wants to sign with the WWE again or give TNA a try.
If RVD does resign with the WWE, he will have effectively won the negotiations by receiving the time off that he originally had requested. With the flurry of injuries lately and the lack of main event depth, RVD had plenty of leverage.
If RVD signs with TNA, he'll have a chance at the top spot again. The WWE has been quite reluctant to put RVD in that position again after his last title reign. TNA is quite aware of those issues, but they are more willing to take the risk because the rewards could be higher. TNA is an up and coming company, so adding a name brand like RVD could only help.
So, with the news of his departure a horribly kept secret, everyone expected Randy Orton to get the easy victory last night, especially after the writers replaced Snitksy in the match. A lot of people felt that RVD was going to be used to help elevate the remaining talent on his way out the door.
There was word that Vince McMahon was furious that the news leaked to the public, which is a bit surprising considering almost everything in wrestling gets leaked. McMahon wanted to throw people off by keeping RVD around for a few shows after One Night Stand.
Well, McMahon threw an even bigger swerve by having RVD winning the match.
