TNA's Future
The future of TNA will be decided in the next few months.
First and foremore on TNA's agenda is a new TV deal. Their deal with Spike TV expires later this fall.
Though the relationship with Spike TV has beneficial for both sides, TNA executives are shopping around for other TV deals. Within the month, Jeff Jarrett and Dixie Carter are scheduled to head to Los Angeles to speak with a few of the networks.
Don't believe any rumors about TNA and Spike TV having any friction. Shopping around for a new deal is basic business sense. Companies always shop for new TV deals to see if they can get a deal that pays more. That's just how things work.
A new TV deal would also allow TNA to be able to take the risk on signing high impact wrestling free agents. Available big name free agents include the Big Show, Chris Jericho, Rob Van Dam (contract expires in a few weeks), Sabu, and a few others.
The Big Show, Jericho, and RVD have been household names for wrestling fans for the past 10 years and would provide TNA with some recognizable names to draw in new fans. Sabu has value because of his recent stint in ECW.
Though these additions won't change the balance of power in the wrestling world, it would do wonders for TNA's revenue. Contrary to popular internet belief, TNA's goal is not to compete with the WWE, but rather to generate revenue. If they start growing exponentially, then the goal could be changed, but for now, TNA wants to be as profitable as possible.
Now's the time for TNA to make some strides forward. |
