During the kickoff match, Adrian Neville was given a surprising victory over a five time former Intercontinental Champion.

It appears that the rumors about a New Day push are true. Kofi Kingston and Big E Langston were able to capture the belt from Tyson Kidd and Antonio Cesaro. Of course, Kingston generated some heel heat for the trio by grabbing a handful of trunks to secure the pin fall. They were jeered by the audience because of their new tactics, which means that the booking is working. Natalya and Xavier Woods were heavily involved.

In a sign that fans can actually help to dictate the product, rumors are floating around that WWE changed up their plans for the tag team division because of the chants that New Day were getting. Management originally was going to give the Lucha Dragons a shot at the belt at Extreme Rules. However, the switch was made to Kofi Kingston and Big E Langston, who are likely to win. Kalisto and Sin Cara would then challenge Kingston and Langston.

As some of you already know, plans change pretty often backstage in WWE. Originally, Kalisto and Sin Cara were supposed to challenge Tyson Kidd and Antonio Cesaro for the tag team championship at Extreme Rules. However, management opted to change things up by giving the match to Xavier Woods, Kofi Kingston and Big E Langston instead, even though the Lucha Dragons received really nice ovations from the live events during the Europe tour.

Some good news if you're a fan of the New Day. Since management could not get them over as baby faces, the plan now is to turn them into heel. As seen on Monday Night Raw, Xavier Woods and Big E Langston were a lot more aggressive in the ring than normal. They came close to cheating on a couple of occasions. The losses and boos will eventually cause them to go evil. This would mark the first heel turn for Kofi Kingston since joining WWE.

In the opening match of the Wrestlemania kickoff show, Antonio Cesaro and Tyson Kidd managed to successfully retain the tag team championship in a match that also featured Big E Langston, Kofi Kingston, Diego, Fernando, Jimmy Uso and Jey Uso. Jimmy was written out of the match almost immediately because he is injured in real life. After several high spots, the match ended when Cesaro pinned Langston.

Some further details have been revealed about the family emergency that Kofi Kingston has been dealing with. His sister passed away earlier in the week. That led to rumors that he was forced to leave San Francisco and would miss Wrestlemania. However, reports then surfaced that the longtime WWE star was going to stick around and finish off the pay per view before going to be with his family later on in the week.

The source is someone on Reddit that claims to have a close relationship with the WWE star. A lot of people believed this particular person. However, it has now been revealed that the former Intercontinental Champion is still in California and will still be working the pay per view on Sunday.

There are speculations floating around that WWE is doing an about face with the New Day stable and are actually considering a push for the trio. Rumors were started when the official company website published an article where it suggested that management might bring back the Freebird Rule, which would enable Xavier Woods, Kofi Kingston and Big E Langston to share the tag team championship. It could just be a tease from the writers.
