Aside from half hearted programs with Sin Cara and Rey Mysterio, Alberto Del Rio really has not been given a full program by WWE to work with since wrestling John Cena at Survivor Series 2013. However, the feeling backstage is that Del Rio is assured a spot at Wrestlemania 30 to draw in the Spanish media.
It is now being said that Vince McMahon made an appearance in the arena after the Survivor Series went off the air because he wanted to test the audience to see how they would react to his upcoming return.
Prior to the Survivor Series, there were talks of turning Big E Langston back into a heel and having him challenge John Cena for the World Heavyweight Championship.
After being sent home early from the European tour because of chest pains, Dean Malenko returned to work backstage for WWE last night at the Survivor Series.
The goal all along for the Survivor Series was to feature Roman Reigns and make him appear more like a main event level performer, which is why the main reason WWE put together that tag team match.
Since he made a cameo appearance during a backstage segment at the Survivor Series, speculations have arisen about John Laurinaitis making his return to WWE television, but the former on screen general manager is not scheduled to do so anytime soon.
Word going around is that despite doing the tease between John Cena and Randy Orton at the end of the Survivor Series last night, the two of them are not expected to feud until Wrestlemania.
Randy Orton predictably defeated the Big Show to retain the WWE Heavyweight Championship at the Survivor Series. He was able to hit the RKO after Triple H, Stephanie McMahon and Kane provided the distraction by coming out to the ramp.
After a match filled with crowd pleasing signature spots, CM Punk and Daniel Bryan picked up the win over Luke Harper and Erick Rowan. Bryan blasted Rowan with the running knee, as Punk pinned Harper after the Go 2 Sleep finisher.
Many were predicting John Cena to successfully defend the World title against Alberto Del Rio at Survivor Series, and WWE did not stray from that. Cena dodged the arm breaker and hit the Attitude Adjustment for the pin fall victory.
While there are still people under the belief that this entire thing is a story line, AJ Styles has now been booked for various independent wrestling shows, including a big match against former WWE signee Kassius Ohno in January, from now until March.
Since TNA showed very little interest in picking him up, Kassisus Ohno has decided to return to ROH this weekend, utilizing the Chris Hero name that he used before jumping ship to the WWE developmental program.
TNA has shown very little to no interest in signing Kassius Ohno, the former ROH star who was recently released by WWE. That does not come as a surprise, though, as the TNA front office is currently slowing things down for the holidays.
While the company has publicly left the door open for a potential return, the belief is that Kassius Ohno has no intentions of ever coming back to WWE, as he feels that management will not give him a fair chance to succeed.
At a Dragon Gate USA show, Kassius Ohno, who was recently released by WWE, took a jab at Triple H by having his opponent doing the crotch chop and Pedigree finisher, which Ohno was able to kick out of at the one count.
"I don't think they give a s--t about (indies) buzz. They only care about their own buzz, which makes sense. You can't solely cater to the niche fan base — it's a tricky demographic to deal with. But you can see somebody get over with those fans and think maybe they can do it in WWE, too. And they see someone who has the passion to chase the dream, traveling around the world. If you have passion, if you're a good performer, those are two of the most important things in wrestling, and they're things you can't manufacture. Some people are naturals. Take Big E Langston; he has such a perfect match of athleticism and charisma, and he looks like an action figure."
One of the people who backed up Kassius Ohno with management was Dusty Rhodes, who was really pushing for the company to keep the former ROH star around.
