Earlier in the year, Elijah Burke revealed that he had been in communication with Triple H in regards to a WWE return. However, it now appears that he will be returning to TNA instead. Burke is slated to make an appearance during an episode of Impact Wrestling later on this month. It is being said that he will be doing commentary with Josh Mathews. NO word yet on whether or not that will be his full time role, but do not rule out an in ring return.

While it is still pretty early on, it appears that the return on investment for Josh Mathews has been a rather good one for TNA. He is doing a tremendous job of being a one man commentating team after the departure of Taz. The company might have been in a bind had it just been Mike Tenay out there by himself. While he is one of the most knowledgeable guys to ever do the job, Tenay is a guy that works much better when there is a color commentator.

When Tommy Dreamer gave Shane Helms a chance to be a commentator for House of Hardcore, a new career opportunity was opened. Rumors are now floating around that TNA is considering Helms as a potential replacement for Taz, who recently parted ways with the company. Helms was recently added to the front office as an agent and producer, but a change could be made if management deems him to be the best option to join Josh Mathews.

To clear the air, Taz revealed some details about his departure from TNA. He stated that his contract was up later on this summer, and he already had plans of moving on to do something else. There is some backstage heat currently between Taz and TNA. Reports have stated that he purposely skipped a voice over session for a taped episode of Impact Wrestling. It is said that he absolutely refused to get on his flight from New York City to Nashville because he was upset that his pay check was late. Josh Mathews ended up working the episode alone. There are talks that Al Snow could be the replacement commentator if needed.

Count Josh Mathews as another former employee who is critical of WWE. During a recent podcast interview, he stated that Vince McMahon has lost touch with his product. Mathews feels that his former boss was once a wrestling genius but he simply does not get it any more. He also states that it is called the Universe because McMahon is so egotistical. Mathews also talks about having trouble dropping bad habits he learned in that company.

While he would never publicly acknowledge his interest until he is contractually able to do so, the belief is that Mike Tenay would be very interested in joining Jeff Jarrett in GFW. The promotion still needs a lead commentator for when they start doing televised events. Some are under the belief that Tenay is not completely happy in TNA because he is now a producer instead of a commentator. Tenay was replaced by Josh Mathews this year.

When TNA brought Josh Mathews in to replace Mike Tenay, they were hoping that a younger commentator could breathe some new life into Impact Wrestling as they make their way to Destination America. That is exactly what he accomplished. Management is said to be quite pleased with how the move has worked out. Mathews has done a solid job, and the show does have a fresh feeling after years of Tenay.

An interesting point has been made about Josh Mathews being able to use the same moniker in TNA as he did in WWE. Generally, the latter corporation likes to copyright names and gimmicks that they come up with, so that they can control the capitalizing. The belief here is that management never bothered to file the paperwork to keep ownership of the handle. For those that do not know, the commentator's real name is Josh Lomberger.
