On the latest episode of Monday Night Raw, Rusev brought out a lawyer to help him get out of defending the United States Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania against John Cena. Well, Vince McMahon was not a fan of the guy. He was so irate backstage that he fed JBL some lines on the commentating booth to bury the acting skills of the performer. It is being said that WWE auditioned people at the arena for the role.

In order to push him higher up the ladder, WWE will eventually be required to take the United States Heavyweight Championship off of Rusev. However, people backstage do not want to see John Cena picking up the strap because it would seem like a demotion for his character. An idea being tossed around backstage is to have Cena helping another wrestler, such as Jack Swagger or Curtis Axel, win the belt from the Russian sympathizer.

Another interesting backstage story in WWE has been told by Court Bauer, a former writer for the company. He stated that management purposely made it where CM Punk could never sell more merchandise than John Cena. Whenever the number for Punk merchandise would rise, the company would then produce more products for Cena. They also shipped out a lot more Cena merchandise to the live events to make sure Punk did not beat him.

Some further details have been revealed about the eye injury that John Cena is trying to work through, and it sounds like it is actually worse than what everyone initially thought. The scratched cornea was the injury that was reported, but now word coming out of backstage is that Cena is also suffering through a ruptured blood vessel as well. The former world heavyweight champion is in a lot of discomfort, but he will still try to work Fast Lane.

One of the more interesting angles that WWE is doing now is the one where they are making John Cena out to be an old veteran. Reports have surfaced that there are those backstage who are critical of the former heavyweight champion for going along with the idea. They feel that he should use his backstage power to veto the move because it could end up being very bad for his character. Management is slowly demoting him.

For those of you that are under the assumption that John Cena has or uses a lot of stroke backstage, take a look at Big E Langston. The former pushed really hard for WWE to give the latter a chance in the main event scene. Management gave Langston a brief push, but it was not sustained. Nor did it take him that far up the ladder. He is essentially lost in the shuffle as a filler wrestler now. Cena does not play the political game as much as former stars did.

Everyone already knows that John Cena is essentially guaranteed a spot at Wrestlemania as long as he is healthy. However, there have been questions as to whom WWE will have him work with on the pay per view. Things were made a bit clearer after the Royal Rumble. During a post show segment, Cena worked a backstage interview brawl with Rusev. The feud was heavily rumored because the latter needed to fight a big name star.

While the plans for his major push are still in place, there is reportedly a growing number of people backstage in WWE that are doubting Roman Reigns and his ability to carry the company. They desperately need someone else besides John Cena to carry the burden, but Reigns is not showing as much improvement as management had hoped for. There's a certain standard that the company wants for their main event guys, and he's not there yet.
