Jake Roberts afraid of snakes

During a recent interview, Jake Roberts acknowledged that he unlikely would have made it to the top if not for the snake gimmick. The WWE legend also revealed that he was and still is afraid of snakes. Roberts came up with the idea when he was extremely stoned one night. He took the idea to management, and they absolutely loved it, so he ran with it to get a push. Roberts has a long history of substance abuse, so it's not that shocking.

Randy Savage paranoid about snakes

To give you an idea of just how shady the professional wrestling business used to be, Randy Savage was said to have been paranoid about doing the segment where Jake Roberts ties him up and lets the snake bite him in the arm. The idea was created by Vince McMahon. Savage had issues trusting McMahon, so he had Roberts get the snake to bite himself backstage to make sure that it wasn't poisonous. He didn't want to find out on camera.

While doing an interview to promote Jake Roberts and his new film, Diamond Dallas Page revealed that Scott Hall once threatened to walk away from WCW if Eric Bischoff did not go along with their plan for pushing DDP into the main event scene during his feud with the nWo. Things worked out quite alright for all sides involved since DDP ended up becoming one of the most popular performers in the industry at that time.

He claims that it was given to him by Paul Orndorff because Roberts kept sneaking behind his back and stealing his ring rats. Orndorff kept calling him a snake, so that nickname stuck. Roberts confessed that the snake gimmick made all of the difference in the world when it comes to his popularity and longevity in the business.

In a sign that he is still relevant to the mainstream audience, Jake Roberts has revealed that his documentary will be released in theaters. It will not be a nationwide release, however. Only certain markets will be showing the film.
