Driver of the Week: Kurt Busch
![]() At the beginning of the race, everyone was expecting Jimmie Johnson to be closer to clinching the Sprint Cup Championship and Kyle Busch to complete the weekend sweep after winning both the WinStar World Casino 300 and the O'Reilly Challenge. But it was lap 3 that changed things for the 2009 chase as Jimmie Johnson was involved in a wreck with Sam Hornish which damaged his car to the point of no return when it came to winning this race. He had to make repairs so he wouldn't DNF since if he DNF'ed the race, He would lose his lead in the chase. this wreck was the miracle that Mark Martin and Jeff Gordon needed to stay alive in the chase, but Jeff was invovled in a wreck with Carl Edwards and Juan Pablo Montoya at lap 176, but Jeff finished 14th and Mark finished a lot better finishing 4th, however, Jimmie did at least get his car to be back on the track, granting him a 38th place finish, so he did enough to maintain his points lead however the damage was done and now he has a 73 point lead, which is a lot smaller now. meanwhile Kyle's sweep chances died when he ran out of gas and had to pit with 3 laps to go, which gave the lead to his older brother Kurt. which meant Kurt Busch won the race. Here's the recap, lap by lap and results: Recap:http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/news?...v=ap&type=lgns Lap by Lap:http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/news?..._com&type=lgns Results:http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/sprin...ults?year=2009 And now the updated official points standings after this weekend's races: Camping World Truck Series:http://www.nascar.com/races/truck/20..._official.html Nationwide Series:http://www.nascar.com/races/bg/2009/..._official.html Sprint Cup Series:http://www.nascar.com/races/cup/2009..._official.html Two more races are left in the 2009 NASCAR season. The last stop before Homestead is Phoenix International Speedway in Avondale, AZ. on Friday the Camping World Truck Series will be racing in the Lucas Oil 150 on Friday Night, then on Saturday the Nationwide Series will be racing in the Albe Body Labor 200 and on Sunday race #9 in the chase is the Checker O'Reilly Auto Parts 500. I'll update you with the latest info later this week.

Carl Edwards won yesterday's Albe Body Labor 200at Phoenix, but the leader in the Points standing, Kyle Busch, blew his chances of clinching the title at Phoenix, so now he has to wait one more week to become the 2009 Nationwide Series champion. Busch wrecked early in the race, but managed to finish 9th, but it wasn't enough to clinch the title.
Here's the recap and results of yesterday's race: Recap:http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/news?...v=ap&type=lgns Results:http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/natio...ults?year=2009 i'll have the driver of the week/results/official points standings tomorrow.

Driver of the Week: Jimmie Johnson
![]() Last week, Jimmie was caught up in a wreck at lap 3 of the Dickies 500, how ever he saved himself from a DNF and got 38th place and made sure he stayed in the lead, but he lost 111 points due to it, however yesterday was a different story, he started 3rd and made his move early in the race and took the lead. The only time Jimmie didn't lead the race after that point was when he took some green flag pit stops but that's all he needed to gain a bigger lead. He lead a lap , which equals five bonus points, then he lead the most laps, more bonus points, and he won the race, which gives him some more bonus points, which means he gain 35 points in the points standings which brings his lead in the standing to 108 points behind teammate Mark Martin. every other chaser expect Martin and Jeff Gordon have been eliminated from the Chase, with one to go. Gordon will be Eliminated from winning the Chase at the start of the final race of the year. Here's the recap, lap by lap and results to yesterday's race: Recap:http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/news?...v=ap&type=lgns Lap by Lap:http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/news?..._com&type=lgns Results:http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/sprin...ults?year=2009 And now the updated official points standings after this weekends races: Camping World Truck Series (champion has been crowned): http://www.nascar.com/races/truck/20..._official.html Nationwide Series:http://www.nascar.com/races/bg/2009/..._official.html Sprint Cup Series:http://www.nascar.com/races/cup/2009..._official.html And now it comes to this, the final weekend of the NASCAR 2009 season, Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead, FL. on Friday Night, the Camping World Truck Series will wrap up there season with the Ford 200, where they already crown their champion Ron Hornaday, who will race for one more win this season. Then on Saturday the Nationwide Series wraps up there season with the Ford 300 where Kyle Busch will clinch the Nationwide Series championship if he does well enough to clinch it. And finally the chase comes to an end with final race in the 2009 Sprint Cup Season as Jimmie Johnson will try to clinch a historic forth straight Sprint Cup Championship in the Ford 400. i'll have you updated later this week.
