Road Warriors vs Demolition

When asked if the Road Warriors were upset with Demolition for copying their gimmick, Animal stated that he was fine with it. He said that he was friends with both guys. Animal and Smash actually knew one another back in high school. The two of them were among a group of wrestlers that all grew up in Minnesota together. Animal also noted that they were the tougher looking team of the two.

Demolition on LOD

In a rather interesting interview, Smash stated that he felt that Demolition was a much bigger attraction than the Road Warriors, the team that they were accused of emulating. The man legally known as Barry Darsow reasoned that he and Ax worked the bigger New York territory, so that made them more relevant than Hawk and Animal, who mostly worked the southern territories for years.

Demolition leaves WWE

While doing a podcast interview with Jim Ross, Demolition revealed some interesting tidbits. Ax stated that Crush was added because he had developed a toxic level of iodine in his system. A very bad allergic reaction to shrimp cause management to make the addition. Smash stated that their matches against the Road Warriors were awful. When promises were kept by management, they decided to leave WWE.

Nikita Koloff in Demolition

Back when Barry Darsow decided to leave the NWA for WWE, he was told that he would be dropping the Russian gimmick and adopting what we now know as Demolition. He invited Nikita Koloff to make the jump with him and even told him of the new character that he would be portraying. Koloff felt that it seemed like too much of a Road Warriors rip off that he was turned off on the idea. He decided to remain loyal to the company that gave him his start.
