While fans waited until the day of the pay per view to find out, WWE had actually made the decision to remove Daniel Bryan from Extreme Rules on Friday. The belief is that management opted against revealing that immediately because they wanted interest on the show to remain as high as possible. Many were looking forward to seeing Bryan work the event because that would mean that his injury was not as severe as initially believed.

There had been legitimate concerns backstage over his health, as many were under the belief that he would walk away like Edge did to ensure his long term health.
