Every year, WWE fans want to know who the Money in the Bank contestants are going to be. Here is a list of performers on Smackdown that have the best chances of making it into the big ladder match and their chances of winning the briefcase.
AJ Styles in Money in the Bank
This choice makes way too much sense. AJ Styles should definitely be one of the Money in the Bank contestants. He is one of the best wrestlers in the world. WWE needs to treat him like a top star by constantly having him involved in the main event scene. A quick way to get him back up to that level is by having him win the Money in the Bank. The audience would pop whenever he teases a cash in. Aside from that, World Wrestling Entertainment needs to put Styles in the MITB because he can potentially steal the show. Much like Jeff Hardy and Kofi Kingston before him, AJ could put out quite the memorable spots off the ladder.
Baron Corbin in Money in the Bank
It is quite easy to see that WWE is grooming Baron Corbin for the main event scene. Management has taken a well paced route for his push. Corbin usually destroys low card and lower mid card performers. Then, he is booked strong against guys in the upper mid card and main event scene. The approach should slowly give Baron enough credibility for when the trigger is actually pulled. If World Wrestling Entertainment is interested in speeding things up a bit, then putting the Money in the Bank briefcase in his possession will get the job done.
Dolph Ziggler in Money in the Bank
Time may have passed Dolph Ziggler by. WWE might no longer view him as someone that should be in the main event scene. That is a shame because he still possess all the tools to be on that level. Getting back to the top is a long shot. However, Ziggler still remains quite the asset to World Wrestling Entertainment. Management needs to keep utilizing him on pay per view. The Money in the Bank match is a great spot for Dolph. His ability to sell and desire to steal the show makes him a prime candidate for a spot.
Erick Rowan in Money in the Bank
Considering how he has been used by WWE over the years, the odds of Erick Rowan getting a main event push is pretty slim. Management would have done something more with him by now if they believed he should be on that level. However, Rowan still has some value. He has a role in the mid card scene. Erick can also be a solid filler in a match such as the Money in the Bank. His chances of winning are pretty much nonexistent. But he can be the big guy that helps out with certain spots.
Jinder Mahal in Money in the Bank
A couple of months ago, Jinder Mahal would not be on this list. He is now because WWE decided to pull the trigger on his push. Mahal has gone from the lower mid card to upper mid card really quickly. His world title shot against Randy Orton seems a bit rushed. However, Jinder is doing the best he can with the opportunity that he has been given. If he does not win the belt from Orton at Backlash, then a spot in the Money in the Bank seems like a good place for him to rebound.
John Cena in Money in the Bank
Since Wrestlemania 33, John Cena has not really been around WWE much. He is a part time guy now. However, that does not eliminate him from being a candidate in big matches such as the Money in the Bank. Though he does not need the briefcase, Cena cannot be ruled out as a potential winner. That might not please a lot of people to hear. The MITB gimmick is a convenient way for the creative department to rush him into a title match. That would be useful to them if Jinder Mahal were the champion and needed someone to give him more credibility.
Kevin Owens in the Money in the Bank
Years ago, very few people would have thought that Kevin Owens would be near the top of the ladder in WWE. Here he is. He had a good run as the Universal Champion. In fact, it was good enough to where the front office will have to put him back there again some day. The Money in the Bank is a good place to make that happen. Owens is a tremendous heel. He will resort to anything to get back to the top. That makes him an excellent candidate for the MITB briefcase.
Luke Harper in Money in the Bank
The Internet Wrestling Community loves Luke Harper. They feel that he is underrated and under pushed by WWE. To appease these particular fans, the creative department will more than likely include the former Wyatt Family member into the Money in the Bank. His chances of winning are slim. However, he can gain some momentum for himself by putting on a tremendous spot or two. Harper is superb when it comes to doing hardcore spots.
Mojo Rowley in Money in the Bank
Though he is not the most popular performer with WWE fans, there are people in the front office that are clearly behind Mojo Rowley. Back when he was in NXT, there was a buzz that he might some day be the man to replace John Cena in the top spot. It does not look like it is going to happen any time soon. Plus, Roman Reigns has been handed that particular crown. However, World Wrestling Entertainment still wants to see what they have in Rowley. A spot in the Money in the Bank might help convince some fans that he can be an upper mid card guy.
Rusev in Money in the Bank
For a while there, it appeared that WWE was not going to push Rusev again. He seemed relegated to the mid card scene. However, they recently decided to give him another chance. Rusev is currently building towards a world heavyweight title program with Randy Orton. The character wanted the title shot to happen at Money in the Bank. That wish might not be granted just yet. As a consolation prize, the Bulgarian Brute could be placed in the ladder match to earn his shot.
Sami Zayn in Money in the Bank
Ever since the 1980s, there have been talks about a “glass ceiling’ in WWE. Sami Zayn is a perfect example of someone whose face is currently being pressed against that glass. The former ROH star is an excellent performer. Zayn has a decent following. However, his chances of making it to the main event scene are not favorable. That doesn’t mean that World Wrestling Entertainment is just going to put him on the shelf, though. A spot in the Money in the Bank could seem like a reward towards the guy.
Shinsuke Nakamura in Money in the Bank
Aside from being a great in ring performer, Shinsuke Nakamura has Japan on his side. WWE views him as a marketing asset. A good way to draw in fans from overseas is by putting Nakamura in one of their signature matches. Throw out the possibility of him being immediately elevated in the Money in the Bank. If he holds the briefcase, then fans in Japan and other Asian countries might be more intrigued by the product. Some might even tune in to see if World Wrestling Entertainment will actually put him in the top spot.
