Tazz

Jerry Lawler

WrestlingRevealed.com has learned that WWE has narrowed down their choices for the commentator’s spot at the Royal Rumble.

The top three choices are Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler, and Tazz. There’s a chance that the company may decide to use all three guys on the commentating booth during the actual Royal Rumble itself.

Jim Ross, Joey Styles, and Jonathan Coachman should all be on hand to cover the respective brand’s matches on the undercard.

WWE Coach

WrestlingRevealed.com has learned that Jonathan Coachman (aka Coach) will be replacing JBL as the color commentator on Smackdown.

When JBL left the broadcasting table to return to the ring, a void was created.

WWE auditioned several people as a replacement, including Michael Hayes and Tazz.

Michael Hayes is Smackdown’s lead writer. Putting him at the broadcasting table would take away even more time from his writing. There’s already a handful of wrestlers who don’t have storylines on Smackdown.

Tazz would have been a good choice, but that would mean that WWE would have to find a replacement for him on ECW. Management wasn’t too fond of the idea of using Tazz for both shows.

So, for the time being, Jonathan Coachman will fill in next to play by play commentator Michael Cole.

Of course, this could be a temporary thing. Jonathan Coachman already has a role as Vince McMahon’s executive assistant. Plus, he’s stated in the past that he doesn’t want to be a full time commentator. He doesn’t mind filling in.

Can’t say that we disagree with Jonathan Coachman. He’s a gifted talker and his character is well defined.

It’d almost be waste to have him commentating, don’t you think?

WWE Tazz

WrestlingRevealed.com has learned that Tazz is the leading candidate to replace JBL on Smackdown.

When JBL returned as an active wrestler, his spot as the color commentator on Smackdown became vacant. WWE had been auditioning several candidates several weeks prior to the announcement of JBL’s ring return. Tazz was one of the people that was considered for the spot.

Of course, Tazz has quite a big advantage over his competition as he has worked with Michael Cole before as Smackdown’s color commentator. In fact, he was the man that JBL replaced.

It’ll be interesting to see what WWE does with the ECW commentating team if they decide to go with Tazz. Will they allow Joey Styles to work alone like he did in the original ECW? Will they utilize Tommy Dreamer, Matt Striker, or Stevie Richards in the spot?

WWE has a few days off for the holidays, so they’ll have a bit of time to make a decision.

WWE JBL

WrestlingRevealed.com has learned that WWE TV producer Kevin Dunn and Michael Cole have been auditioning people to replace JBL at the commentator’s booth.

For the past several weeks, there have been talks about JBL getting back into the ring after taking time off to heal his injuries. It looks like his return has officially started after he attacked Chris Jericho during the WWE Heavyweight Championship match at Armageddon.

WWE has not revealed the names of those who auditioned for the role of Smackdown’s color commentator. There’s still a possibility that Tazz can take over the role (in addition to his role as ECW’s color commentator).
