royal rumble

Michael Buffer

WrestlingRevealed.com has learned that Michael Buffer wasn’t a popular guy at the Royal Rumble.

Michael Buffer used to work for WCW, and his reputation with the wrestlers was horrible there. Apparently, things haven’t changed because he wasn’t very popular with the WWE wrestlers either when he showed up for the Royal Rumble pay per view.

Jim Ross didn’t even try speaking with him. Jerry “the King” Lawler did, but he came away with a pretty negative view of the guy.

WWE doesn’t really need to hire the guy. Howard Finkel does a fantastic job. Plus, he’s popular with both the wrestlers and the audience. Let him do the job.

What’s that? You want to own every single Royal Rumble since the start? No problem. We’ve got you covered. WWE Shop is currently selling the 4 pack, which includes every single Royal Rumble (without this year’s, of course) ever. Be prepared to spend hours in front of the TV.

Mick Foley

WrestlingRevealed.com has learned that WWE has officially listed 24 out of the 30 participants in the Royal Rumble tonight.

From Raw, you have Umaga, Hardcore Holly, Snitsky, Cody Rhodes, Santino Marella, Carlito, Shawn Michaels, Mr Kennedy, and Triple H.

From Smackdown, you have Hornswoggle, Batista, the Undertaker, Kane, Finlay, Jamie Noble, Mark Henry, Great Khali, and Chuck Palumbo.

From ECW, you have John Morrison, the Miz, Shelton Benjamin, Big Daddy V, and Tommy Dreamer.

Mick Foley, who isn’t a full time wrestler, is also scheduled for the event.

There’s a ton of speculations on who those 6 mystery wrestlers are going to be. WWE usually leaves a few slots open every year to surprise the fans.

Sometimes, they’ll bring in a comedic character from the 80s and 90s just for the cheap pop. Guys like the Honky Tonk Man and Doink the Clown are examples. Jerry Lawler is always a candidate to jump into the match. You also have long shot entrants like Beth Phoenix and the Big Show as well.

We understand that the comedic spots are done to entertain the audience, but from a realistic standpoint, it sucks to be the regular wrestlers who don’t qualify only to see a random person get selected.

Big Daddy V

WrestlingRevealed.com has learned that Big Daddy V may be used as the “dominant big man” in the Royal Rumble this year.

The writers and agents usually use the middle section of the Royal Rumble each year to showcase one of the many big wrestlers. It’s a great match to make them look dominant. In the past, guys like Kevin Nash and Matt Morgan have benefited from such a push.

This year, the leading candidate for the push is Big Daddy V.

WWE knows that his momentum has been declining for the last few weeks. Giving him a monster push in the Royal Rumble would be a great way to get things going again.

He doesn’t appear to be a leading candidate to actually win the Royal Rumble, though.

Jerry Lawler

WrestlingRevealed.com has learned that WWE has narrowed down their choices for the commentator’s spot at the Royal Rumble.

The top three choices are Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler, and Tazz. There’s a chance that the company may decide to use all three guys on the commentating booth during the actual Royal Rumble itself.

Jim Ross, Joey Styles, and Jonathan Coachman should all be on hand to cover the respective brand’s matches on the undercard.

Royal Rumble

WrestlingRevealed.com has learned that the Royal Rumble was planned out on January 2, 2008.

Smackdown lead writer Michael Hayes and special consultant Pat Patterson worked out the entire plans for the Royal Rumble. They decided on the participants (Triple H was always in the plans, by the way), the order of entrance, the order of elimination, and the finish.

The plans were presented to Vince McMahon afterwards, and he approved.

Now, the plans need to be presented to some of the main wrestlers for approval before everything gets set. The guess here is that the plan needs to be presented to Shawn Michaels, the Undertaker, Triple H, and possibly JBL.
