Abyss’ Return Date Revealed

After months of being off television, Abyss is set to return to TNA at the Slammiversary pay per view.

TNA started airing vignettes of Abyss’ return on iMPACT! last week. They teased things by having him film the footage without his mask on; his long hair and the lighting effects helped to cover up his face.

There are talks that Abyss will be utilizing less of a hardcore style when he returns. The general belief is that he’s far too reliant on hardcore matches.

Personally, I believe in the “If it’s not broke, don’t break it” theory. Abyss is one of the best hardcore wrestler in mainstream television. If his body can handle the punishment, then management should just let him continue doing what he does best.

WrestlingRevealed.com has learned that Abyss has been removed from the TNA roster on the official website.

In order to sell the storyline that Abyss is gone, TNA has removed his profile from their official website. He is still with the company. Abyss will be taking some time off of television and return with a new character.

It’s a small gesture, but it really does show that the company tries to sell a storyline as much as possible. They did the same thing for Christopher Daniels as well.

TNA: FINAL RESOLUTION 2007 Watch Abyss defend the NWA World Heavyweight Championship against Christian Cage and Sting at TNA Final Resolution 2007.

WrestlingRevealed.com has learned that a handful of TNA wrestlers will head to Japan at the end of the month to work a few matches.

Kurt Angle will be defending the IWGP 3rd Generation belt against Yuji Nagata, the former WCW star who is now one of the top stars in Japan. The match will take place at the annual wrestling extravaganza at the Tokyo Dome on January 4, 2008.

Here’s the rest of the card:

• IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Hiroshi Tanahashi vs Shinsuke Nakamura.
• IWGP Tag Team Champions Tomko & Giant Bernard vs Rick Steiner & Scott Steiner
• IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Wataru Inoue vs Christopher Daniels
• Abyss vs Manbu Nakanishi
• Team 3D vs Togi Makabe & Toru Yano
• Great Muta vs Hirooki Goto
• Christian Cage, AJ Styles & Petey Williams vs Milano Connection AT, Minoru & Prince Devitt

Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin will be challening for the NWA International Lightweight Tag Team Championshp when they face Ikuto Hidaka & Togo on January 1, 2008. This show will also feature the Great Sasuke and Masato Tanaka.

Spike TV will be filming these matches and produce a 1 hour special.

Word coming out of TNA is that Abyss has been given a minor role on the booking committee.

This bit of news has caught people by surprise because there was never really any indications that Abyss was up for the job. It’ll be interesting to see how much he gets pushed now that he’s part of the booking committee.

Interestingly enough, people are still misinformed about Vince Russo being the head booker. He’s part of the committee. Jeff Jarrett is essentially still the head booker. He leads the way with a handful of people providing ideas and stories.
