Shawn Michaels at NXT

The wrestlers in NXT got a nice little treat last night at their event. They got to hang out a little bit with Shawn Michaels, who watched the show from the backstage area instead of being in the audience like Jim Ross. While WWE would love for Michaels to sign on as a trainer for the developmental program, he simply has not expressed a desire to take on that job full time. He doesn't mind going in once in a while to provide pointers, however.

The NXT live event last night started at 10pm local time. In order to save money on union costs, Vince McMahon needed his company to be out of the building by midnight. However, the WWE CEO was having so much fan and felt the electricity in the audience, he decided that it was a cost he was willing to pay. The show went on for another hour, which bodes well for wrestling fans that want to see Triple H gain more power backstage.

Some people feel that his long term health is in jeopardy because he refuses to have the type of neck surgery that WWE would rather have him do. There are even those that are comparing the situation to what the front office had to deal with Kurt Angle several years back. Eva Marie replacing Lawler

While WWE has since decided to change back to their original plans, there is some merit to the idea of Eva Marie replacing Jerry Lawler. There was a strong push by certain individuals backstage for well over a month now to do a youth movement. By having someone as attractive as Eva as the host, the feeling is that it would make the hall of fame ceremony more of a draw for Wrestemania. The change could still take place next year.

In the end, though, the front office decided to go with the business decision. Since they wanted to draw in fans from Japan, where WWE will be touring this summer, Hideo Itami was chosen. Management even further capitalized on the situation by having Japanese legend Tatsumi Fujinami endorsing Itami in the ring.

While it may seem like a non factor to most fans, there is actually a debate going on backstage in WWE right now about which match will open the kickoff show for Wrestlemania this year. Now, with the Andre the Giant memorial battle royal being bumped off the main card, he is considering using that as the opener.
