TNA Video Game

by Jack Windham
May 1, 2008

The upcoming TNA video game is another step forward for the burgeoning battle in the wrestling industry.

TNA Video Game

In September of 2008, TNA will officially fire another shot at WWE by releasing their first video game.

While they're still years away from being a strong competition for WWE, TNA is taking a positive step forward.

When TNA was first established, a lot of wrestling fans didn't even given them a chance to make it past the first year.

Well, in about a week, TNA will be celebrating their 6th year in existence.

Obviously, for a company that wasn't even supposed to last this long, releasing a video game is considered a huge milestone.

The Alternative

TNA knew that they weren't going to be able to compete with WWE right off the bat, so they decided to promote their company as being an alternative.

Based on the early previews of their video games, they're following the same method of marketing.

The TNA video game is definitely an alternative to WWE's Smackdown vs Raw video game series.

TNA has been putting an emphasis on fast paced action and unique matches in their new video game.

Match types such as Monster's Ball, Ultimate X, and King of the Mountain are going to be unique to the TNA video game.

The game will also include the traditional wrestling matches as well, though.

Controversial Cover

One of the things that critics have already complained about is the actual cover of the TNA iMPACT! video game.

It features Samoa Joe, Kurt Angle, and Sting.

The critics have complained that TNA should have included more of their "homegrown" talent such as AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels.

However, if you look at things from a business perspective, it makes absolute sense to include those guys.

There's a lot of casual wrestling fans that purchase video games.

Those casual fans may not recognize AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels, but they will recognize Sting and Kurt Angle.

If you can't get the casual fan's attention by including familiar faces on the cover, then you're not going to get them to check out the back cover.

And, if you can't get them to check out either side of the video game, then chances are, they're not going to even buy the game.

There's a good chance that if TNA can get casual fans to play their video game, then that increases the chance of them watching the produce on television.

Closing Thoughts

While this video game isn't going to strike fear in WWE, it at least does get their attention.
