The Story
Back in May, the Undertaker was injured while he was locked in a feud with Batista over the World Heavyweight Championship. Since Batista was already a top level wrestler, they decided to use the injury angle storyline to elevate someone else instead.
That someone was Mark Henry.
Mark Henry was returning from an injury himself, so he needed some momentum. He was out for several months after tearing his patella tendon completely off of his bones.
During an episode of Smackdown, the Undertaker defended the World Heavyweight Championship against Batista. After the match, Mark Henry made his return and attacked the Undertaker. This allowed Edge to sneak in and cash his Money in the Bank clause to steal the title.
That basically was the setup for this entire feud. The rest of it was filled with weeks and weeks of Mark Henry beating random jobbers in meaningless matches. He lost quite a bit of momentum because the writers didn't put him into meaningful feud while he waited for the Undertaker to return.
It a bit of irony, Mark Henry's character grabbed a microphone after another meaningless match and said, "This is getting redundant." |
Contract Status
Prior to Mark Henry signing a contract extension with the WWE to stick around for a few years, this match would have ended with the Undertaker burying the World's Strongest Man on his way out the door. Now that he's signed, Mark Henry will probably be made to still remain pretty strong in this match.
Taking the Title
More than likely, the Undertaker will be chasing the Great Khali for the World Heavyweight Championship soon. The writers still would like to give the Phenom a long title reign, so he should be winning the belt before the end of the year. In order to do that, the Undertaker will have to be booked really strong here so he can challenge for the title as early as No Mercy.
Payback
A good way for everyone to come out strong and to have some continuity in the storyline would be to have the Undertaker winning the match by using a steel chair.
That would emphasize the fact that the Undertaker hates Mark Henry for ruining his title reign. It would also show some fire in the Undertaker's eyes as he targets his World Heavyweight Championship again.
It also allows for Mark Henry's character to have a ready made excuse as to why he lost the match against the Undertaker. It would also keep him strong for another top level feud, perhaps with Batista.
Closing Thoughts
Undertaker is basically guaranteed to win this match, especially considering how Triple H and Rey Mysterio won in their return matches. |
