In one of the most shocking moves over the last few years, TNA has successfully managed to sign the most popular wrestler of all time.
Hulk Hogan to TNA
Hulk Hogan sure knew how to shock the wrestling world.
When word spread that the former WWE Heavyweight Champion was going to conducting a press conference today in New York, most wrestling fans just assumed that he was going to be promoting his brand new book, "Hulk Hogan: My Life Outside the Ring".
With that in mind, most people just ignored the announcement.
However, Hulk Hogan was able to gain everyone's attention today when he appeared at the press conference with Dixie Carter, Eric Bischoff, and the TNA logo shining in the backdrop.
Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff have signed a deal to join TNA.
The Big Change
TNA is no longer the same.
While full details of the deal have yet to be disclosed, it has been reported that Eric Bischoff and Hulk Hogan are not going to be taking over the creative department or the day to day operations.
Rather, they're going to have important roles in other ways.
Eric Bischoff is going to be helping TNA secure more television deals and producing more programming for the company. The former president of WCW has more than proven that he's capable of getting television shows created and placed on networks.
There's a chance that Eric Bischoff might still be used as an on-screen character. He's actually one of the better mic workers in the business. He's just a natural at drawing heel heat.
As far as Hulk Hogan is concerned, he'll be used as an in-ring performer on a semi regular basis. Don't expect to see him working the full schedule like AJ Styles, Kurt Angle, and Samoa Joe.
The 56 year old star isn't likely to be an official member of the creative team. However, as we've all seen in the past, he'll use politics and leverage to gain a lot of "creative suggestions".
Just the Tip of the Iceberg
There's been talks that the signing of Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff is just the tip of the iceberg for TNA. More big names are expected to join the company in the coming days and weeks.
One of the biggest names being mentioned is none other than the legendary Ric Flair.
Ric Flair has made it well known that he still wants to be involved in the wrestling business. With Vince McMahon not wanting him around, a move to TNA would make a lot of sense for the former NWA World Heavyweight Champion.
Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair are already business partners through Eric Bischoff's company. It wouldn't be all that difficult for them to bring Ric Flair into the fold.
No word yet on who else is going to be coming to TNA, but the buzz going around is that it is going to create some shock waves through the industry.
Closing Thoughts
Great signing for TNA. Hulk Hogan is no longer a good wrestler. However, anyone that believes that TNA was signing him for his wrestling skills simply does not understand the business side of things. |
