Edge Injured

WWE has just lost one of the best overall performers in the business to a serious injury. Edge will be out of action for quite some time.

Edge Injured

Edge was scheduled to work a house show down in San Diego against hometown hero Rey Mysterio. With Rey Mysterio's massive popularity down in San Diego, it made all the sense in the world to have the top heel on the brand going up against him.

This was the match that fans paid to see. Unfortunately, though, the fans did not get their money's worth.

Edge suffered an injury a few minutes into the match. The injury was serious enough to where he could not work the match.

Breaking away from character, Edge grabbed the mic and apologized to all of the fans in the arena. He's a man that takes a lot of pride in giving the fans what they want, and he truly felt bad about what had happened.

The early report are that Edge will be required to miss approximately 6 months of action. He's still trying to decide if he will heal the injury with surgery or allow it to heal naturally. Either way, he will need time off.

Change in Plans

It's a good thing that Vince McMahon is the type of business man that doesn't like to plan things in advance because he surely would panic right now.

The main event scene is getting dangerously thin right now. The following top level superstars are currently away from the road (or might soon be away from the road).

  • Batista - Should be out at least 4 months after tearing his biceps again.

  • Shawn Michaels - The veteran has been taking time off since Wrestlemania to heal himself - both physically and mentally.

  • Jeff Hardy - He's only got approximately a month left on his contract, and he still has not committed to signing a new contract because he wants to take time off.

  • Rey Mysterio - He's currently healthy now, but injuries are always a concern with Rey Mysterio. Plus, he's still not entirely happy about the money situation with WWE.

  • Undertaker - Just like Shawn Michaels, he has been taking some time off to heal up. He might be forced to return early, though.

Those five are some of the biggest stars in the company. WWE is already hurting from their absence. Adding Edge, who is easily one of the five best workers in the company, to that list hurts a lot.

Potential Partners

With Edge out of action, WWE is going to have to scramble to figure out what to do with the Unified Tag Team Championship.

Should they decide to keep the belts on Chris Jericho, here are some good choices as a replacement tag team for him.

  • Carlito - He's turning heel and abandoning his brother. He's got all of the tools necessary to become a main event performer. This could be a chance to get him back towards that.

  • Brian Kendrick - He's doing absolutely nothing on Raw right now (mainly because of his own shortcomings). His character benefits tremendously by being around Chris Jericho.

  • CM Punk - Don't be fooled by that championship belt around his waist. CM Punk is still not viewed as a legitimate main event wrestler by the company. He still needs more momentum, which is something that he can obtain by being around Chris Jericho.

  • Charlie Haas - Putting him with Chris Jericho would do much more for him than having him impersonate other wrestlers for weeks.

  • Curt Hawkins - His "brother" is getting a push over there in ECW. The two aren't that far apart in terms of ability. He might never become a superstar, but he might be able to play the sidekick role well.

  • Dolph Ziggler - It's obvious that the company wants to push this guy. He's not as great as some fans make him out to be, but it might be worth it to give him a try. Pairing him with Chris Jericho makes him 10 times as relevant.

  • Matt Hardy - The only knock on Matt Hardy is that he doesn't have as much personality as the company wants from a main event performer. Chris Jericho has more than enough for the both of them.

  • Mike Knox - He's a big guy that the company doesn't know what to do with. Chris Jericho could get even more heel heat by having an enforcer backing him up.

Closing Thoughts

This is a rough blow to WWE. Hopefully, Edge recovers fully from this injury. The company needs him.
